Radhe Radhe !

It is ahot fav in Maharshtra. we call it '' ptraveel'' or ''patreel''. A Maharashtrian wedding, or a shraaddha cannot be held without patreel. Here, in every nook and corner, patreel is sold in various sizes, and packages. It is very nice treat for your Deities.

Radhe Radhe!
Also called Patra Bhajia, a monsoon dish from colocasia leaves my mom often makes—I thought of sharing this recipe when I offered it yesterday! But it seems like the sañchārī-bhāvs (ref: baṭu's BRS :haha:) caused this delay (just kidding)! Anyway, get it here:

Ingredients
10 Colocasia leaves (aravi ke patte)

For the paste:
  • 1 1/2 cups (150 g) 5 oz Gram flour (besan)
  • 1 cup (100 g) 3 1/2 oz Wholewheat flour (atta)
  • 1 cup (200 g) 7 oz Yoghurt (dahi), fresh'
  • 1 tsp (2 g) Turmeric (haldi) powder
  • 5 tsp (15 g) Sugar
  • 2 tbsp (8 g) Green coriander (hara dhaniya), chopped
  • 1 tsp (6 g) Green chilli-ginger (adrak) paste
  • 4 tbsp (60 ml) 2 fl oz Soybean oil
For the tempering:
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) 1 1/2 fl oz Vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp (4 g) Sesame seeds (til)
  • 2 tsp (4 g) Cumin (jeera) seeds
  • a pinch of Asafoetida (hing)
  • 3 tbsp (12 g) Coconut (nariyal), grated
  • 2 tbsp (8 g) Green coriander (hara dhaniya), chopped

Method
Wash, clean and wipe the leaves nicely. Mix all the paste ingredients and make a thick smooth paste. Place a leaf back side up and spread thinly all over the leaf. Place another leaf over it and again take a little paste and apply on this leaf. Repeat this with 3/4 layers. Fold the leaves with tip apply some batter here and fold the sides, seal the sides with the batter.

Steam this roll in a cooker for about 30 minutes till it is cooked. Remove, cool them and cut into 2” round slices. (can keep these rolls in the freezer).

Heat oil and( shallow) fry them till it becomes crisp. Serve them with chutney. See what it tastes!
