R\u00e2dh\u00e2 placed Her grand diamond necklace in Lalit\u00e2\u2019s hands, and embracing a flowering Malli creeper on the banks of the Yamun\u00e2, She fainted. Her dear <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em> carried Her to a Kadamba garden that is buzzing with bees and they are singing <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Harin\u00e2m<\/em> to keep Her alive\u2019.\u201d- (U.N.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Srila Vishwan\u00e2th Chakravartip\u00e2d has explained this verse from U.N. in his \u00c2nanda\u2013Chandrik\u00e2 purport as follows.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;Why did Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 embrace the Malli creeper that She had planted with the Her own hands on the banks of the Yamun\u00e2? It is because She wanted to say \u2018O my dear Malli! Now I am about to leave this world. My <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em> will water you daily and you will yield beautiful flowers. When those flowers will be knit into a garland and embrace the bosom of He\u2013Who\u2013is\u2013difficult\u2013to-obtain (Krishna) then I will gain happiness through you.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Why did Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 place the necklace in Lalit\u00e2\u2019s hands and not round her neck? It is because Srimati was suffering very much from the pangs of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> and Her thick, long hair was all dishevelled. She tried to take off Her necklace but it was caught in Her hair and She found it difficult to remove it. Therefore, She just tore off the string and handing it to Lalit\u00e2, said, Dear Lalite!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>Please wear this necklace in my memory and embrace Krishna forever and ever.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: normal;\">When Srimati faints, Her <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em> sing the nectarine Krishna \u2013<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">n\u00e2m<\/em> and thus keep Her alive. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The saint poet Shashi Shekhar d\u00e2s has described Srimati\u2019s \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">mriti\u2019<\/em> as follows \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;(Srimati is saying -) I was so tempted by His soothing form that I gave up all my honour and dignity. Now if He deserts me, what is the point in living? Dear<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> sakhi<\/em>, please give me some poison so I may die.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">My dear <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis, <\/em>why are you crying?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>Listen, when I die you do as I tell you. Don\u2019t put me in the water nor place me on the pyre, but keep my body carefully in Vraja. Tie both my hands tightly to a branch of the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">shy\u00e2m<\/em> (dark) Tam\u00e2l-tree. Then you come to see me everyday at dawn, after rising from your beds. Dear <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em> please remember this wretched R\u00e2i in all events. Lalit\u00e2, take this pearl necklace and wear it as my remembrance. Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2, my <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhi<\/em>, please accept my bangles and Indurekh\u00e2 take my ring. Take my nose-jewelleries, O Chitr\u00e2, and O pure-hearted Sudevi, please wear my long earrings in your ears.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Saying this, She (R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni) distributed all Her ornaments amongst Her <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis.<\/em> Poet Shashi Shekhar says &#8211; I am heart-broken and am beating my chest and head in grief.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: right;\" align=\"right\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: normal;\">Thus, we find that the beloved only prepares for death. Srimati is saying, until the last moment may I continue to see Your moon-like face. I am sure I will die some day, but, if I die beholding Your moon-like face it is worthwhile. Otherwise, I shall consider myself unlucky. If You say \u2013 why are You so anxious? Have patience, You will see me at the proper time. I reply \u2013 If I die just now, then how and when will I behold Your moon\u2013like face? Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 felt as if Krishna was telling Her \u2013 If You are certain You\u2019ll die anyway, what does it matter whether You see me or not ?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Actually when a devotee is very much full of Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness inside and outside, even if he wishes for death, he does not die. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; You have decided to die. We would not mind at all if You would be happy by dying. But will Your suffering end on death? You know very well \u2018ya<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> matih saiva gatih\u2019<\/em> (You will get that what you think of while dying).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>If You die, thinking of Krishna, even in the next life You will continue to cry for Krishna.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>If You can forget Krishna and then die, You will attain peace. However, You are \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Krishnamayee<\/em>\u2019<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>that is, You have Krishna within and without. Krishna traverses Your whole being; hence, it is impossible for You to forget Krishna. I have heard from <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Devi<\/em> Pournam\u00e2si and N\u00e2ndimukhi that if we worship the Impersonal Brahman, the heart becomes devoid of love. Therefore, if You can meditate on Brahman, You will not suffer any more and You don\u2019t have to cry for Krishna in either this life or the next.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>But I don\u2019t know the process of Brahman-meditation.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2 is an expert in all these things, it is better You learn from her.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Then Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2 seated Srimati on an <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u00e2san<\/em> and started the training.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>The more Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2 told Her about the Impersonal Brahman, the more Srimati expressed goose bumps and manifested all the symptoms of ecstasy such as tears, and shivering. Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2 told Her, \u2018Why R\u00e2dhe! I can see all the symptoms of ecstasy in You!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>You are supposed to concentrate on Brahman with a mind emptied of all feelings, and instead You are showing all the signs of devotional ecstasy!\u2019 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 replied with a voice choked with love, \u2018My dear Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2! The more You are telling me about the Impersonal Brahman, the more my mind is being full of the ever beautiful, ever sweet form of Sri Krishna resembling the fresh clouds, the crest-jewel of all <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">rasik<\/em>. The more I try to forget Him, the more my body, senses and innermost consciousness are full of the form of that Shring\u00e2r Rasar\u00e2j (the Chief of erotic <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em>)! <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Sakhi<\/em>, I have realized that I cannot forget Shy\u00e2m. All hopes of death are dashed to the ground.\u2019 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The loving devotees do not wish to die for they are afraid of being separated from Sri Krishna. When the terrible forest-fire threatened to destroy all the Brijw\u00e2sis, they prayed to Sri Krishna &#8211;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;O All-powerful Krishna! Sri <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Bhagav\u00e2n<\/em> never approves of wishful dying whether in the case of a <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">s\u00e2dhak<\/em> devotee or <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">siddha<\/em> devotee.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">San\u00e2tan Gosw\u00e2mi, who is Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu\u2019s eternal associate, was depressed and wanted to die under the wheels of Sri Jagann\u00e2th\u2019s chariot, but Mah\u00e2prabhu told him \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;O San\u00e2tan!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>If I could obtain Krishna just by giving up this body, then I would gladly give up crores of bodies in a single moment. However, we cannot obtain Krishna just by dying, for this we have to perform <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">bhajan<\/em>. There is no way to obtain Krishna other than practicing pure devotion. Only the ignorant people commit suicide.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>You cannot obtain Krishna by resorting to ignorance or passion. We cannot attain <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem<\/em> without resorting to pure devotional path and there is no way to obtain Krishna other than <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem.<\/em> If the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">s\u00e2dhak<\/em> kills himself, it will only show his ignorance and cause him to fall down spiritually. He will never obtain Krishna\u2019s lotus feet.
