O Lord, O my Darling, the only true Friend in the universe, O Krishna, O my naughty Beloved, O my Protector, <\/span>O my Sweetheart, <\/span>O Delight of the eyes, <\/span>alas ! <\/span>Alas! <\/span>When will You appear before me? 40.<\/span><\/p>\n

n this verse the poet has addressed his beloved Sri Krishna in various ways. In the last line he has expressed a simple prayer – when will You appear before me? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d is a rasik<\/em> par excellence. He has explained Srimati\u2019s uttering very sweetly in a most wonderful manner. Really, such explanation is impossible without Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu\u2019s mercy. In the previous verse, Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 heard Sri Krishna\u2019s flute and the tinkling of His anklets. Therefore, She stood up and looked around. When She did not see Him, She said-\u2018O sakhi<\/em>! I can hear Sri Krishna\u2019s anklets, yet I cannot see Him? I feel That Cheat is most certainly hiding in some nearby flower-grove and is enjoying Himself with some other Gopi<\/em>.\u2019 While saying this Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 once again became delirious. In the hallucinating state She felt, as if, Sri Krishna has appeared before Her and He has all the marks on His body that showed that He had been making love to someone else. When She saw Him in this manner, She entered the bh\u00e2v<\/em> of \u2018amarsha<\/em>\u2019.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is \u2018amarsha<\/em>\u2019? <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“When a person can not tolerate criticism and insult he is said to possess a feeling called \u2018amarsha<\/em>\u2019.\u201d – (B.R.S.2.4.159.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The symptoms of amarsha<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>(Chandr\u00e2vali had made a very beautiful earring out of gunj\u00e2 flower and had gifted to Sri Krishna. He in turn had presented it to Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2. Chandr\u00e2vali\u2019s sakhi<\/em> Padm\u00e2 saw this, she felt very hurt that K\u00e2nh\u00e2 had given away something that her dear friend had made so lovingly for Him. Immediately (in front of Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 and Her sakhis<\/em>) she expressed her sorrow. This amused Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni\u2019s sakhis <\/em>very much (for it highlighted Her importance). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then she reported the entire incident to Chandr\u00e2vali. Chandr\u00e2vali could not bear it and told Padm\u00e2 – “Padme! Why did you have to express sorrow when you saw those earrings on Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2\u2019s ears? Why did you reveal the truth? Ohh! How painful! This showed we are inferior! You should have instead told -\u2018O R\u00e2dhe! Do you know why Sri Krishna has put these earrings on your ears? It is only because He wants you as well as all other damsels of Vraja to know what an expert artist Chandr\u00e2vali is! You see, He wants that you should be amazed!\u2019 Or else\u2026 you should have pretended to be surprised, and said \u2013 \u2018O R\u00e2dhe! We saw these very same earrings rolling in the dust on the roadside when we were going towards Yamun\u00e2. Some sakhi<\/em> must have picked them and put them on your ears, I presume.\u2019 Sakhi<\/em> Padm\u00e2! Oh, why don\u2019t you know how to tell such lies? It is your entire fault that our status is now lowered.\u201d Here Chandr\u00e2vali is showing amarsha<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span><\/span><\/span>(Srila Vishwan\u00e2th Chakravartip\u00e2d has relished the verse of U.N. and has offered the above explanation in his \u00c2nanda-Chandrik\u00e2 purport)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Srimati felt amarsha<\/em> and so she did not speak to Sri Krishna. Then she felt as if He had disappeared, since She had not spoken to Him. Therefore, She started repenting and showed a mood called \u2018outsukya<\/em>\u2019 (impatience).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is \u2018outsukya<\/em>\u2019?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“When a person cannot bear to lose any more time to behold the loved one and get close to him, he is said to show \u2018outsukya<\/em>\u2019.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The symptom of \u2018outsukya\u2019<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

(Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 was waiting for Sri Krishna, all dressed up in bridal finery, when Her sakhi<\/em> came to Him and gave Him this message) – “O Krishna! Because Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 is expecting You to come, She has decked Herself in all sorts of ornaments. If the leaves of the trees make a rustling sound She gives a start, thinking You have come. Sometimes She is straightening the bed and sometimes She is lost in deep thought. In this way the beautiful Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 is sometimes arranging Her dress, sometimes debating with Herself, She is making hundreds of plans and then discarding them. She is trying to engage Herself in hundreds of activities; however in Your absence She will never be able to pass the night\u2019. – (Geet Govindam)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After this Srimati felt both amarsha <\/em>and outsukya<\/em>. When two feelings mix with each other we call it \u2018bh\u00e2v-sandhi<\/em>\u2019. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is \u2018bh\u00e2v-sandhi\u2019<\/em>?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“When similar or opposite moods get mixed with each other it is called \u2018bh\u00e2v-sandhi<\/em>\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Bh\u00e2v sandhi<\/span><\/em> is of two kinds-<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1)mixture of similar bh\u00e2v<\/em>s<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2)mixture of opposite bh\u00e2v<\/em>s<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>(Vrind\u00e2 told Pournam\u00e2si Devi<\/em>) – “O devi<\/em>! Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 was waiting for Sri Krishna very eagerly. When He appeared before Her She was stupefied<\/strong> with joy. Just then, Her husband Abhimanyu too appeared on the scene. His eyes were red with anger and he was muttering to himself. How terrible! Seeing him the lotus-faced Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 was stupefied<\/strong> and her eyes were transfixed. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bh\u00e2v-sandhi<\/span><\/em> <\/span>of similar bh\u00e2v<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

She resembled a statue of gold and was rendered immobile.\u201d Here R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni is showing immobility due to desirable and undesirable causes. Nevertheless, both have produced the same effect, that is, stupefaction<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bh\u00e2v-sandhi<\/span><\/em> of opposite bh\u00e2vs<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

<\/span>(When Pournam\u00e2si Devi<\/em> saw Sri Krishna holding the Govardhan Mountain, she thought) – “Ohh! These Vraja-damsels are feeling both pain and pleasure \u2013 pain, since they are worried about Sri Krishna. At the same time they are joyous since they are feasting on their beloved\u2019s beautiful form and they are getting to behold Him all day and night uninterruptedly!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We must note that amarsha <\/em>is followed by ill feeling and wrath, while outsukya<\/em> is followed by intelligence, humility and restlessness<\/strong>. Therefore, if these two feelings (amarsha<\/em> and outsukya<\/em>) come together, the other feelings too will form what is called \u2018bh\u00e2v-sh\u00e2valya<\/em>\u2019.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
