The Mah\u00e2jan has described the state of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">udveg<\/em> in the following manner \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">(Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 is saying) \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;The arrow of the Love-god Manmath (one who agitates the heart) has pierced my heart. I wonder it does not break into two pieces. I feel as if a fire of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> is raging inside me. My body is very tough, so it does not burn to ashes. In this manner what all emotions She aroused in the compassionate Sri Krishna!\u201d &#8211; [U.N. 13.40]<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 gazed at Her <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em> and saw even they were anxious. She said, &#8220;To whom shall I tell my feelings? I find You in the same state as I. Have You become a <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">yogini<\/em> (one who performs spiritual austerities and meditation) or <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viyogini<\/em> (one who pines for her lover)? Whatever I had done, anticipating to see Him, has been rendered futile. Enough of expectations!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Now She felt <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">amarsha<\/em>. She said, &#8220;No need to speak of That ungrateful Krishna. Let\u2019s not spend time in useless talk (Krishna-<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">kath\u00e2<\/em>). Rather let\u2019s discuss something worthwhile.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Just as She uttered these words, Sri Krishna\u2019s form appeared in Her heart, She was overcomr with agony and became restless like a doe pierced with arrow and said, &#8220;<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhi<\/em>! I can\u2019t bear any more \u2013 How painful! I had decided not to think of Him at all, but I have no option \u2013 He is right in my heart! He has captured the fortress of my heart and is now hurting me. He is my enemy, and assuming the form of Passion He is now piercing my heart with arrow dipped in ardour, what do I do?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">In the very next moment Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 felt \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">outsukya<\/em>\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">(The<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> Gopis<\/em> told Uddhav as if to remind him of Pingal\u00e2\u2019s advice \u2013 &#8220;Expectation is the root cause of supreme sorrow, while inexpectation results in supreme happiness\u201d.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: right;\" align=\"right\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>&#8211; [Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam 10.47.47]<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">In spite of knowing this we hoped to obtain Sri Krishna and now it has been dashed to the ground.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Hence Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 said in sorrow, &#8220;Stop thinking about how to forget Krishna! Alas! Alas! My thirst for Him is increasing every moment!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">What sort of thirst?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">\u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">kripana-kripan\u00e2<\/em>\u2019<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> \u2013 more humble than humble. Alas! <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhi<\/em>! What do I do? Where do I go? From where shall I get Krishna? She remembered Pingal\u00e2\u2019s words and pondered on them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">(She said) &#8211; Let us adopt Pingal\u00e2\u2019s advice and give up all expectation of Krishna, for then we shall be happy. Stop this useless Krishna-<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">kath\u00e2<\/em> and discuss something worthwhile, so that we may forget Krishna.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">As soon as She uttered these words, Krishna appeared in Her heart. She was shocked and told Her <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em>, \u2018I want to forget Him; but He is lying in my heart! How can I renounce Him?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni\u2019s <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">bh\u00e2v<\/em> is entirely different. She sees Krishna as the very embodiment of Passion. Her heart was agitated. She felt a great longing and could not control Her emotions. This entire book is full of such longing, such extreme desire! In the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">s\u00e2dhak<\/em> state, Srila Lil\u00e2shuk is always yearning for Sri Krishna\u2019s <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">darshan<\/em>. He has reached the state of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">anur\u00e2g<\/em>! This is a high level of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">What is <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem<\/em>?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">When a devotee feels very intense longing for Sri Hari, it is called \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem<\/em>\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">The worldly people desire for wealth and popularity that is so temporary. Many such cheap things can satisfy cheap desire. However, Sri Hari is priceless. Therefore, other objects can never satisfy the desire for Sri Hari. Then <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u2018jol binu jeno meen, duhkha pay \u00e2yuheen, ei moto krishna-binu bhakta\u2019<\/em>, that is, \u2018a devotee\u2019s state without Sri Krishna is just like that of a fish gasping without water.\u2019 All his desires and thirst centre around the lotus-feet of Govinda. Moreover Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is a devotee in the sweet mood of Vraja. His attraction and pining too is very very extreme \u2013 there is no way he can obtain it nor can he forget. One moment he is saying \u2013 stop Krishna-<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">kath\u00e2,<\/em> discuss something else, the very next moment he is saying \u2013 my humble thirst for that sweeter-than-sweet Govinda is increasing more and more. It is a big joke that someone like me is experiencing such a tremendous thirst.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">The poet has used the word \u2018<strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">aho<\/em>\u2019<\/strong> in wonder and sorrow. It is useless to keep such high expectation. It is better to remain silent. The tide has turned against me. When He has turned His face away from me, how can any endeavour be fruitful? Better discuss some other topic so that my mind will be at peace. Even this is impossible, since my thirst for the all-attractive Sri Krishna is ever increasing. What sort of thirst?
