rila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d explains that Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 has sunk into depression and the sakhis<\/em> are thus consoling Her \u2013 “O dear One! Why are you despairing so? He will surely come to see You. You too will be able to behold Him.\u201d Hearing these words Srimati is expressing Her anxiety and Sri Lil\u00e2shuk has echoed Her feelings. <\/span><\/p>\n

Srimati said in despair, O sakhis<\/em>! Will I ever be so lucky? When will that Kishor see me with His lotus-eyes? I am dying in His viraha<\/em>; will He ever see me before that?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How is His gaze? It is very merciful and soothing due to prem-ras<\/em> and shring\u00e2r-ras<\/em>!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Kavi Karnapur has showed the difference between prem-ras<\/em> and shring\u00e2r-ras \u2013 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Prem-ras<\/em> contains all other ras,<\/em> just as the sea contains waves. Similarly all types of ras<\/em> and bh\u00e2v<\/em> are parts of prem-ras<\/em>. As a result shring\u00e2r-ras<\/em> is part of prem-ras<\/em>.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

In this context he mentions that some people are of a different opinion. <\/span><\/p>\n

“keshanchin-mate sri-radha-krishnayoh shringarar eva ras. tan-mate\u2019pi\u2013 etad-udaharanang nasangatang shringaro\u2019ngi premagang angasyapi kvachit-udriktata.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “Some people feel that where Sri Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2-Krishna are concerned, shring\u00e2r-ras<\/em> is the main ras<\/em> while prem-ras<\/em> is a part thereof. In that case also, my statement still holds good since sometimes the part (shring\u00e2r-ras<\/em>) gains a greater magnitude than the whole (prem-ras<\/em>).\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

While explainings \u2018rasa-shitala-abhyam\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d has written \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018prem-ras-shringara-rasyoh pravahena shitala-abhyang.\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning- “His gaze is soothing due to the flow of prem-ras<\/em> and shring\u00e2r-ras<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Shring\u00e2r-ras<\/span><\/em> contains hugging and kissing. In prem-ras<\/em> one only gazes into each other\u2019s eyes. This sort of deep gazing and losing oneself in each other\u2019s eyes is much more relishing and blissful than mere hugging and kissing. Hence the flow of shring\u00e2r-ras <\/em>resides in the stream of prem-ras<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Srimati said, His eyes are blue and rosy. The pupils of His eyes have a slight bluish tinge while the tips are rosy. Moreover His eyes are wonderfully amorous or full of love-sports and forever darting here and there just like a khanjan<\/em>. His face itself resembles a lotus-flower. <\/span><\/p>\n

“All glory to Sri Krishna\u2019s lotus-face that reigns supreme in all exultation! The nose, cheek-bones, lips, cheeks, chin and ears are its divine petals, the teeth are its filaments, its sweet smile is the nectar that is scattering fragrance all around, the beautiful eyes are the khanjans<\/em>, the eyebrows surrounded by the curly locks resemble bumble-bees accompanied by small honey-bees while the beautiful tongue is the wonderful seed-vessel! All glory to Sri Krishna\u2019s lotus-face!\u201d – [G.L. 16.77].<\/span><\/p>\n

“His eyes flash like lightning and dart in all directions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“e sakhi ata-e na paolo or, kaichhan chit chor choraolo mor\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Beloved sakhi<\/em>! His eyes are fathomless. How they stole my heart!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“janalu abahi koylo mujla hat ata-e se abasha bhelo sob gat.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I see that He has me very much under His thumb and my body has become all numb.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“lochan jugal dore poripur, kohaite boyone kohono nahi phur.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“My eyes were full of tears, and I could not speak.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“chalaite charan achal sama bhelo, \u00a0<\/span>kulabati dharam karam dure gelo.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I tried to walk, but my feet were rooted. I lost all my honour and sense of dharma<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“koyolo bipati eto abhari ay, \u00a0<\/span>ha ha abahu na chhodai tay.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“O! What a trouble I have landed in! Alas! Alas! Now I cannot leave Him!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“puna kiye achhaye achhu abhilash, \u00a0<\/span>na bujhiye-kohoye ghanashy\u00e2m d\u00e2s.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I still desire for more \u2013 poet Ghanashy\u00e2m d\u00e2s says \u2013 \u2018I don\u2019t get it.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Srimati is humbly thinking \u2013 I am an offender, otherwise why did He forsake me? Hence She calls Him \u2018karunaikah\u2019<\/em><\/strong> (compassionate); He is kind-hearted, so He may come again.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a sakhi<\/em>, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk said, when will Sri Krishna, accompanied by Priy\u00e2ji, look at me?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the s\u00e2dhak<\/em> state, Lil\u00e2shuk is a firm devotee of Sri Krishna and is thirsty for His sweet ras<\/em> and sweet beauty. In almost all the verses, he has expressed this feeling. In this verse he is thinking humbly \u2013 will I ever be so lucky as to relish His beauty and sweetness? Then he remembered that Sri Krishna is immensely merciful and decided \u2013 everything is possible due to mercy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I regret that I am unqualified, yet I am tempted by Your qualities.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

When we remember Krishna\u2019s mercy our hearts are illuminated with the light of hope. Then we feel \u2018\u00e2sh\u00e2bandha<\/em>[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>\u2019. (I will surely get Him). But we are also very impatient and cannot bear the delay. This is the state of Lil\u00e2shuk. He is saying \u2013 when will Sri Krishna glance mercifully at me?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d says \u2013 Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is now desirous for Sri Krishna\u2019s darshan<\/em> and he is praying \u2013 when will the ras<\/em>-full kishor<\/em> Krishna look at me with his lotus-eyes? He is merciful. He won\u2019t be able to bear my sorrow. He will look, but with what sort of eyes? \u2018lilambujambhyam\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, which means, \u2018with eyes that are divinely sportive due to shring\u00e2r-ras.<\/em>\u2019 \u2018Leel\u00e2\u2019<\/em> means \u2018a sport arising out of shring\u00e2r-ras<\/em>\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018leel\u00e2 lilety-ami havah kriyah shrigara-bh\u00e2vja\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “\u2019Leel\u00e2\u2019<\/em>, \u2018leel\u00e2<\/em>\u2019, \u2018h\u00e2v<\/em>\u2019 all refer to amorous or \u2018shring\u00e2r\u2019<\/em> movements.\u201d – [Amarkosh[2]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n

His eyes are full of most amazing l\u00e2vanya<\/em>. Also they are \u2018ras-shitala-\u00e2bhyam\u2019 <\/em>meaning, \u2018they are soothing due to shring\u00e2r-ras<\/em>\u2019. They are \u2018neel-aruna-abhyam\u2019<\/em><\/strong> meaning \u2018the pupils bear a bluish tinge while the tips are rosy\u2019 and “adbhuta-vibhrama-abhyam<\/em>\u201d <\/strong>meaning \u2018wonderful restless gaze\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“vibhramo bhranti-havayoh\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “a l\u00e2vanya<\/em> that makes everyone forget everything\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna\u2019s eyes bear this very l\u00e2vanya<\/em> that puts everyone in \u2018vibhram\u2019<\/em> (forgetfulness). <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So, His eyes are very soft, very large and full of leel\u00e2-ras<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Chaitanyad\u00e2s Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d says – Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is expressing his unworthiness in this verse. He is very humble and is praying to Sri Krishna to look at Him. \u2018He is very merciful, so He will gaze mercifully at me.\u2019 His eyes are \u2018lil\u00e2yitabhyam<\/em><\/strong>\u2019, meaning, \u2018He is extremely sportive and His eyes reflect that quality\u2019. \u2018Rasa-shitala-abhyam\u2019<\/strong><\/em> means \u2018eyes that are soothing due to shring\u00e2r-ras. \u2018Neel-arunabhyam\u2019<\/strong><\/em> means, \u2018the pupils naturally bear a bluish tinge, but now He has just woken from sleep, so the eyes are slightly reddish, hence they are looking wonderfully dalliant.\u2019 The poet wants to say \u2013 “Even if I am not lucky enough to obtain His merciful glance, may He be visible to me when He casts His eyes in sport elsewhere.\u201d 45.<\/span><\/p>\n
