Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mi has explained in His Krishna\u2013Vallabh\u00e2 purport that, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is saying, our eyes can search only those objects that are within the visible range, but alas! He is so far away, how can I search for Him? Let us find some way to seek out Him Who is \u2018jagan-madhurima-paripak-udrekam\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, which means, \u2018He Who is the essence of all that is completely sweet in this world.\u2019 Those who know Him, they suggest that the only way to get His darshan<\/em> is to do s\u00e2dhan\u00e2<\/em> with a lot of bh\u00e2v<\/em>. Prem<\/em> is the only way to get Sri Krishna\u2019s darshan.<\/em> If we do not have prem,<\/em> then even if we actually meet Him, it is as good as not meeting Him. When He was manifest in this world, even the asuras<\/em> had got His darshan,<\/em> but they had not relished even one drop of joy from the Ocean of Joy (Sri Krishna). Instead, they were burning with anger, envy and violence. Hence, prem <\/em>is the only means to relish Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“The Fifth \u2018purush\u00e2rtha\u2019<\/em> is \u2018prem<\/em>\u2019. It is priceless and enables us to relish Krishna\u2019s sweetness. A devotee bewitches Krishna with his prem<\/em>. It fetches Krishna-sev\u00e2<\/em> for the devotee and he becomes blissful.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>– [Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita]<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The poet is describing Krishna as \u2018bahula-jaladach-chhaya-chouram<\/em><\/strong>\u2019,<\/em> which means, \u2018He has stolen the splendour from the dense clouds and is now roaring in happiness\u2019. Sri Krishna\u2019s flute-song is the joyous rumbling of the fresh and dense Krishna-clouds (dark clouds). We can compare Him to fresh, dark clouds in every respect.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu is lamenting \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“What do I do O sakhi<\/em>? Krishna is like a wondrous cloud, while my eyes are like the ch\u00e2tak<\/em> birds. They will die of thirst in His absence.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His golden-yellow dress is like a static lightning and the pearl-necklace round His neck resembles cranes in flight. The peacock-feathers adorn His crown like a rainbow; there is yet another bow \u2013 the brilliant \u2018Vaijayanti\u2019 garland[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. When He plays the sweet flute the peacocks dance in glee. His \u2018l\u00e2vanya\u2019<\/em> sparkles like the moonlight of the unblemished moon; such an extraordinary full moon has risen in Vrind\u00e2van. He appeared as a brilliant cloud that nourishes the universe at all times with the shower of nectarine pastimes. Nevertheless it is my misfortune that bad luck carried this precious cloud far away from me like a thunderstorm, and the ch\u00e2tak<\/em> died of thirst.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another explanation for the same words is like this \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Bahula-jalada<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u2019<\/span><\/strong>, that is \u2018the dark clouds\u2019 have stolen the shadow of His splendour[2]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> from Him and are now simply roaring in the sky in happiness. It appears as if they are celebrating their victory! The truth is that, the dark clouds are material while Sri Krishna\u2019s brilliance is eternal and conscious. Although the poets compare His magnificence with fresh clouds, we cannot compare it with anything material. All comparisons are useless. So the Mah\u00e2jan has written \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“kubalaya neela-ratano dalita-anjano<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

megho-punja jini borono suchh\u00e2ndo.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “His beautiful complexion is like a blue-lotus, sapphire, mascara or dense clouds.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The real story is that – when Sri Krishna\u2019s beauty is reflected (say, in a mirror) the dense clouds try to steal a little bit of bluish splendour from it, but of course, they don\u2019t succeed, and only get defamed in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018mada-shikhi-shikh\u00e2-lilottamsam\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/strong> means \u2018His crown is decorated with many colourful flowers and is topped with peacock-feathers.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018manogya-mukha-ambujam\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/strong> means \u2018His lotus-face is supremely amazing and captivating\u2019. \u2018kamal\u00e2-ap\u00e2nga-udagra-prasanga-jadam<\/em><\/strong>\u2019<\/em> means \u2018Kamal\u00e2 is the One Who can relish the infinite joy of Krishna-prem <\/em>completely and She is none other than Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2. It is only Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 Who has the supreme most prem<\/em> for Sri Krishna, so the joy She derives from Sri Krishna-prem<\/em> is also the topmost. He is stupefied by a slight sidelong glance from Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2. This proves that when Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 lowers Her face with a shy smile and casts a slight furtive glance at Him, He is spellbound \u2013 which is a symptom of ecstasy.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Chaitanyad\u00e2s\u2019 special comment \u2013 \u2018Dear devotees, Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2\u2019s side-long glance has made Him motionless, now He cannot run away \u2013 so it is easy \u2013 let\u2019s go and grab Him\u2019. 47.<\/span><\/p>\n
