That kishor<\/em>-form of Sri Krishna, that lotus like face, that compassion, those loving glances, that beauty, that radiant smile \u2013 truly truly they are beyond the reach of even the celestial beings.55.<\/span><\/p>\n

n the beginning of his explanation Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi says: We have relished the sphurti<\/em> of Sri Krishna in Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2\u2019s heart in verses 51, 52 and 53. Now, unable to obtain That sweet Sri Krishna, She has become extremely agitated. Sri Lil\u00e2shuk has echoed Her lamentation in this verse. Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni is telling Her sakhis, “My dear friends, I am telling the truth and nothing but the truth that Sri Krishna\u2019s lotus like face is beyond the reach of the heavenly beings and even Lord N\u00e2r\u00e2yan of Vaikuntha. His compassion and loving glances are all the more rare. What to speak of the Devas, even Mah\u00e2-N\u00e2r\u00e2yan, Who is the Lord of the Vaikuntha planets do not possess the sweet beauty of Sri Krishna. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“In Tattva,<\/em> Mah\u00e2-N\u00e2r\u00e2yan, the Master of the Spiritual world and Sri Krishna are non-different and both are sachchid\u00e2nanda<\/em>; yet Sri Krishna\u2019s form is highly exultant due to all the ras<\/em> that He contains.\u201d \u2013 (B.R.S.1.2.59)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the reason why Sri Laxmi Devi, who resides on the bosom of Mah\u00e2-N\u00e2r\u00e2yan, is performing tapasy\u00e2<\/em> to relish that ras.<\/em> Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam proves the statement with \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

“yad-v\u00e2nchhay\u00e2 shrir-lalan\u00e2charat-tapo vih\u00e2ya k\u00e2m\u00e2n suchiran dhrita-vrat\u00e2\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

We come across a beautiful story in Sri Padma-Pur\u00e2n in this context. At one time Sri Laxmi Devi was tempted by Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness and coveted Him. She started performing severe austerities for this purpose. Sri Bhagav\u00e2n was pleased with her tapasy\u00e2<\/em> and appeared before her. He asked her the reason for her tapasy\u00e2.<\/em> Devi answered, “I want to obtain You in the same bh\u00e2v<\/em> as that of the Gopis in Vrind\u00e2van.\u201d Sri Bhagav\u00e2n said, “It is impossible for you. You are naturally in aishwarya-bh\u00e2v, <\/em>while the Gopis of Vraja are always in pure m\u00e2dhurya-bh\u00e2v<\/em>. Therefore abandon the hope of procuring sev\u00e2<\/em> in Vraja-bh\u00e2v<\/em>.\u201d When Laxmi Devi heard Sri Bhagav\u00e2n, she was crestfallen. She prayed, “O my Lord and Master, then please allow me to reside on Your chest as a golden line.\u201d Sri Bhagav\u00e2n granted her prayer. Until today, Laxmi Devi is residing on Sri Krishna\u2019s bosom as a golden line. Similarly, Sriman-N\u00e2r\u00e2yan cannot steal the hearts of the Gopis.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Sri Krishna is Swayam Bhagav\u00e2n, hence He steals Laxmi Devi\u2019s heart, but N\u00e2r\u00e2yan cannot attract the Gopis. What to speak of N\u00e2r\u00e2yan, even Sri Krishna cannot tempt them by assuming the form of N\u00e2r\u00e2yan. Once<\/span> to pull their legs, Sri Krishna displayed the fourhanded form of Lord N\u00e2r\u00e2yan before the Gopis, yet the Gopis were not overcome with anur\u00e2g<\/em> for Him.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

We can easily understand from the above evidences that Sri Vrajendranandan\u2019s sweetness is much more wondrous. Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d has explained this topic in very sweet language in Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu is describing Sri Krishna in a state of love-delirium \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Amongst all the divine pastimes of Sri Krishna the best are the ones He performs in the human-like form. In these pastimes, He dresses as a cowherd boy, holding a flute. He is Nava-kishor (on the threshold of youth) and performs pastimes as if He is an ordinary human being.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

O San\u00e2tan! Hear the description of Sri Krishna\u2019s sweet beauty.\u00a0 <\/span>A single drop of that beauty submerges entire Creation by attracting all living beings.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His beauty zestfully plunders the hearts of all His other Divine forms as well – all those Divine forms that exist in infinite universes and in the spiritual world.\u00a0 <\/span>It seduces even the Laxmis, whom the Vedas crown as the chastest of all.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Astride the chariots of the Gopis\u2019 hearts, He agitates the heart of the Agitator-of-hearts (the Love-god).\u00a0 <\/span>Hence, He is called Madan-Mohan<\/span>[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. [Madan – the Love-god; mohan \u2013 the one who hypnotises].\u00a0 <\/span>He has vanquished the proud \u2018wielder of five arrows\u2019<\/span>[2]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> (The Love-god). Thus, He Himself is the New God of Love.\u00a0 <\/span>He celebrates His victory by holding the R\u00e2s-festival with the Gopis.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He grazes the cows playfully with His friends. He frolics freely in Vrind\u00e2van playing sweetly on His flute. The song of His flute is so wonderful that all moving and non-moving beings express rapture. They tremble and shed tears.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He looks as beautiful as the newly formed rain-clouds with lovely white cranes (His pearl necklace) flying amidst them. His crown of peacock feathers seem to top the clouds like a brightly coloured rainbow, and He is clad in a golden yellow robe which looks like lightning flashing through the clouds.\u00a0 <\/span>In this manner, He showers the nectar of His pastimes (just as the rain showers rainfall) on His devotees (who are like the harvest or the cream of His Creation).\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This form of condensed sweetness and Divinity has manifested Himself in Vraja.\u00a0 <\/span>Shukadev, the son of Vy\u00e2sdev has described this many times in Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam, which upon hearing the devotees get intoxicated with love.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(The women of Mathura said) \u2013 “The Gopis must have performed some inconceivable austerities; hence they are drinking the nectarine beauty of Sri Hari \u2013 that beauty which even the Goddess of Wealth, Opulence and Fame covet.\u00a0 <\/span>It is extremely rare, unparalleled and is the condensed form of l\u00e2vanya<\/em><\/span><\/span>[3]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>They are drinking this beauty using their eyes as wine-cups.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu has relished this verse and has said \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Sri Krishna\u2019s nectarine youth is an ocean full of the waves of condensed loveliness.\u00a0 <\/span>Various mellows arise as whirlpools in this ocean.\u00a0 <\/span>His resonating flute is a cyclone whereas a woman\u2019s heart is but a blade of grass. Once it drowns in this ocean, it has no chance of survival.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dear Sakhi<\/em>! What austerities have the Gopis performed that the Lord has rewarded them so much? They drink the sweet beauty of Krishna with their eyes to their hearts\u2019 content.\u00a0 <\/span>Their birth is blessed, their bodies are blessed, and their hearts full of Krishna-prem too are blessed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nothing is superior to this sweetness.\u00a0 <\/span>No other Divine form can equal this.\u00a0 <\/span>Even N\u00e2r\u00e2yan, from whom all other Incarnations originate and Who is the Lord of \u2018Paravyom<\/span>[4]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>\u2019, does not possess this sweetness.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Goddess Laxmi (Ram\u00e2), who is Lord N\u00e2r\u00e2yan\u2019s beloved consort, is the evidence for the above statement.\u00a0 <\/span>She, who is the chastest of all chaste women, was tempted by Krishna\u2019s sweetness. Thus, she gave up all luxuries and started performing austerities to achieve Sri Krishna.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He is the essence of all sweetness and the reservoir of all sweet qualities.\u00a0 <\/span>All the other incarnations only reflect His qualities. (They do not actually possess these qualities).\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The \u2018bh\u00e2v<\/em>\u2019 of the Gopis is a mirror that reflects Krishna\u2019s sweetness. It gains a new brilliance with every moment and so does Krishna\u2019s sweetness.\u00a0 <\/span>Both compete with each other and none is defeated.\u00a0 <\/span>In this manner, both cross all bounds. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

M\u00e2dhurya <\/span><\/em>or sweetness is much rarer than karma[5]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/em> , jap[6]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, yog[7]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, gy\u00e2n[8]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, vidhi-bhakti[9]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, tap[10]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> <\/em>and dhy\u00e2n[11]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/em> Only the one who worships Sri Krishna in R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2 path with deep love can get His sweetness easily. In addition, That sweet beauty reposes in Vrajadh\u00e2m alone.\u00a0 <\/span>It is rich in its sweetness.\u00a0 <\/span>It is the abode of all Divine qualities.\u00a0 <\/span>Krishna is the fountainhead of the power and opulence of all the other incarnations\u201d. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mah\u00e2prabhu\u2019s words also prove the highest possible goal of human life. The ultimate result of practicing devotion in the Vraja-ras<\/em> is to relish Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness in the mood of a Gopi!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi says Sri Krishna\u2019s mercy is very rare. He has granted prem even to the trees and creepers of Sri Vrind\u00e2van with the notes of His flute. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“santvavat\u00e2r\u00e2 bahavah pushkara-n\u00e2bhasya sarvatobhadr\u00e2h,<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Krishn\u00e2dianyah ko v\u00e2 lat\u00e2swapi premado bhavati.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Kamala-n\u00e2bh[12]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> Sri Krishna has many bountiful incarnations; however, Who else other than Sri Krishna grants prem to the creepers as well?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This expresses Sri Krishna is much more merciful than His other swarups<\/em> such as Sri N\u00e2r\u00e2yan. Similarly, His loving glance is also extraordinary. Sri Krishna is Leel\u00e2<\/em>-kishor. A single fleeting look of His expresses many leel\u00e2s<\/em> that are full of ras<\/em>. Hence, the poet has called Sri Krishna\u2019s glance as \u2018leel\u00e2-kat\u00e2ksha\u2019.<\/em><\/strong> Such leel\u00e2<\/em>–kat\u00e2ksha<\/em> is never possible in any other divine form. Moreover, His beauty, and alluring yet serene smile too is extremely exceptional. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This verse has another explanation. Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni is sorrowfully thinking, “I have hardly any chance of getting darshan<\/em> of That Leel\u00e2<\/em>–kishor<\/em> once more, what to speak of nocturnal pastimes.\u201d Just then, She experienced a throbbing in Her left thigh, eye and breast. These are auspicious signs. However, Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni chastised Her good fortune and Sri Lil\u00e2shuk has repeated her words. “O good fortune, even you are not fortunate enough to get Sri Krishna\u2019s darshan<\/em>.\u201d We may ask, “How is anything impossible for \u2018Good Fortune\u2019?\u201d Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 replies, “It is true that it is highly unlikely that Good Fortune will get Sri Krishna\u2019s darshan. <\/em>\u00a0<\/span>O Daiva<\/em> (<\/strong>Fortune)! Even you cannot get His darshan<\/em>, then how can you announce that I will be fortunate enough to behold Him? He had forsaken all other Gopis and had made love to me \u2013 yet, now He is refusing to grant me His darshan<\/em>. When His darshan <\/em>has become so rare<\/strong> for me, then definitely His compassion is very rare<\/strong>. In addition, His heart-stealing beauty after lovemaking and His captivating smile when He used to see me with disarrayed attire is extremely rare<\/strong>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
