When Murali-Manohar encounters the Vraja Gopis<\/em>, their golden splendour mingles with His blue sapphire-like complexion and makes Him look like an emerald. E.g.-<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Sri Krishna looked exceptionally beautiful on the R\u00e2s-<\/em>floor and He dazzled like an exquisite emerald amidst golden gems.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

“Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni\u2019s lightning-like lustre makes Sri Krishna\u2019s splendour resemble an emerald and Sri Krishna\u2019s effulgence too lends a brilliant green shade to Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2. Only when They reside separately, They express golden and blue splendours respectively.\u201d \u2013 (Alank\u00e2r-kaustubh)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the reason why Srimati is experiencing His complexion as emerald-like. His naturally sweet face is lit up with an appealing smile. His eyes are large and reaching the ears. They are moving restlessly and His eyebrows are dancing. His eyes are thirstily searching for Her. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“His sparkling dark beauty has pierced my heart and I cannot hold it anymore. I can not imagine how many moons were squeezed to yield how much nectar that were used to make up that face!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His lips are like b\u00e2ndhuli<\/em> and perpetually carry a smile, which is like a flash of lightning across the lap of fresh clouds. It drowns all our honour and dignity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His eyebrows are like the bows of K\u00e2mdev, that are always poised to shoot, while the tips of His eyes have the shade of cinnabar and ever since He glanced at me from the rosy corner of those eyes, I see nothing but Shy\u00e2m everywhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

O sakhi<\/em>! When I climbed up the banks of the Yamun\u00e2, what a wonderful vision I had of Shy\u00e2m! Poet Gy\u00e2na d\u00e2s says – He is sheer nectar \u2013 That Son of Nanda from Gokul.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna\u2019s words are as soothing as His kaishor<\/em>. He attracts the heart and soul of the fair sex of Vraja. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“(His) each and every word exudes nectar \u2013 they are all mantras<\/em> meant to bewitch decent ladies, so that they stay awake all day and night sighing heavily and wishing for death. They constantly keep remembering His style of walking (in half steps) and thus they are full of anguish. He has stuck Himself stubbornly in the middle of the heart within my heart \u2013 tell me O sakhi<\/em>, what do I do?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>– [Balar\u00e2m d\u00e2s]<\/span><\/p>\n

Explanation of \u2018mathur\u00e2\u2019<\/em>, \u2018kah\u2019<\/em> and \u2018eshah\u2019<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His gait, gaze and the amorous movements of His feet and hands are more praiseworthy than those of an intoxicated elephant are. Also, He is called \u2018Mathur\u00e2<\/strong>\u2019, because He agitates (manthan)<\/em> the hearts of the onlookers. Hence, in this verse, \u2018Mathur\u00e2\u2019 refers to Sri Krishna Who is appearing on the pathway to the kunja<\/em> and Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 is seeing Him, and does not refer to “Mathur\u00e2 \u2013 the city\u2019. Hence this part of the verse means Who (kah<\/em><\/strong>) is this (eshah<\/em><\/strong>) Mathur\u00e2 (agitator of my heart)? Everything about Him \u2013 His crown of peacock feathers, built, face, eyes, sweet speech, amorous movements \u2013 agitate the hearts of the onlookers \u2013 Who is He, slowly approaching the kunja<\/em>, on the paths of Vrind\u00e2van?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his siddha-swarup<\/em>, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is standing close to Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni and describing Sri Krishna\u2019s beauty in a charming manner to the surrounding sakhis<\/em>. As a s\u00e2dhak<\/em>, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk had a sphurti<\/em> of Sri Krishna as he entered Mathur\u00e2 and he has described Sri Krishna\u2019s sweet beauty in this verse. He has used the word \u2018Oye\u2019 as an expression of amazement. Who is this entering the kunja<\/em>-way in Vrind\u00e2van? Whose eyes are playful with love-intoxication?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d says, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk contemplated very deeply on Sri Krishna. Therefore, he got a \u2018sphurti<\/em>\u2019 of Sri Krishna and he has described His sweetness in this verse. \u2018Oye\u2019 means \u2018Aho!\u2019 Who is arriving \u2018mitho g\u00e2hate\u2019<\/em><\/strong> (solitarily in an amorous manner)? Here \u2018mathura-veethi\u2019<\/em><\/strong> does not mean the roads of Mathur\u00e2. To prove this Srila Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d has quoted Sri Gop\u00e2lottara-tapani Shruti as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“mathyate jagat sarvang tu brahma-gy\u00e2nena yena va,<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

tat-sara-bhutang yad yasyang mathura sa nigadyate.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “Mathur\u00e2 is the condensed form of the Brahma-gy\u00e2n[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/em> that agitates all creation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This means that Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is describing Sri Krishna in a very loving manner. He has a vision of Sri Krishna because of his deep love. When he saw Him more clearly, he said \u2018maulish-chandraka-bhushanah\u2019<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em> meaning, \u2018He is wearing a crown of peacock feathers\u2019. His body is more beautiful than an emerald pillar. Actually, Sri Krishna\u2019s bodily splendour resembles a sapphire, but He looks like an emerald when He reflects the golden light from His ornaments. Then Lil\u00e2shuk got a closer vision and said \u2013 \u2018vaktram chitra-vimugdha-hasa-madhuram\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em> \u2018Chitra<\/strong>\u2019<\/em> means \u2018most amazing\u2019, \u2018vimugdha<\/strong>\u2019<\/em> means \u2018especially beautiful\u2019. Therefore, especially beautiful smiles are making His face appears like a sweet ras,<\/em> no, the very embodiment of sweetness! Also, His eyes are soft and naturally playful. He heard some words and said \u2018vachah shaishava-sheetala\u2019<\/strong>,<\/em> meaning, \u2018His speech is sweet and soothing\u2019. Then he ascertained that He is none other than Sri Krishna and said \u2013 \u2018mada-gaja-shlaghya vilasa-sthitih\u2019<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em> meaning, \u2018Whose bodily movements are more praiseworthy than those of an intoxicated elephant\u201d. He walks as if He is the master of the earth on which He steps, just as a carefree elephant takes strong strides in the forest he owns.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Chaitanyad\u00e2s has explained \u2018mithah<\/em><\/strong>\u2019<\/em> as \u2018companions\u2019, which means, \u2018He is walking with slow dalliance, and the Gopis<\/em> who have taken shelter unto Him are accompanying Him.57.<\/span><\/p>\n
