They tugged at her \u00e2nchal<\/em>[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> and said “Sakhi<\/em>! Have you gone mad (unm\u00e2d<\/em>)?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

“When we are so much engrossed in one person and see him everywhere all the while, the wise glorify this state as \u2018unm\u00e2d<\/em>\u2019\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

“O Murare! Sri Radha is so miserable in Your viraha<\/em> that She is laughing without any cause and is wandering aimlessly about the house. She is enquiring about You from every moving and non-moving object. What more can I say? <\/span><\/p>\n

She is so terribly sad that She is lamenting loudly and rolling on the earth.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

When Sri Radha ran helter-skelter in a crazy state, Her sakhi<\/em>s said \u2013 “Radhe! Have you gone mad? Please control yourself!\u201d Then She calmed down somewhat and expressed Her feelings in this verse:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 said \u2013 “My dear sakhi<\/em>s! Sri Krishna\u2019s kaishor<\/em>, that is the source of passion, has stolen my heart and has made me crazy!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna agitates the heart, so he is the original \u2018Manmath<\/em>\u2019 (Passion). Sri Krishna\u2019s indescribable kaishor<\/em> arouses this painful passion! <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Actually, the Gopik\u00e2s\u2019 prem<\/em> does not contain the slightest hint of lust or passion. Their chitta[2]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/em> and man[3]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/em> are totally devoid of the material lust that causes pain.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Gopis hide their extremely pure prem<\/em> in their hearts and express it as k\u00e2m<\/em> \u2013 hence they are called \u2018Gopis\u2019 (the one who hides). Even though a priceless diamond may resemble glass, a true jeweller knows its price. Similarly, Sri Krishna, who is the guru of universal prem<\/em>, knows the price of their love. Therefore, he is eternally indebted to the Gopis.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>“O Gopis! Even if I serve you for countless divine years, I cannot pay back anything equal to your glorious act of self\u2013surrender, prompted by love that is completely selfless, casting aside the ever\u2013powerful chain of attachment for home and worldly concerns. As I cannot pay back the debt may your generous act be its own reward.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>– (Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam10.32.22.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 beholds Sri Krishna\u2019s sweet kaishor<\/em>, she becomes extremely restless to serve him in the sweet mood and when she is bereft of that service, She suffers untold pain. We are talking about this painful k\u00e2m<\/em>. Actually, this state is the climax of prem<\/em>–ras<\/em>, so it is totally blissful. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“When a devotee loves Krishna, his body burns as if he has drunk poison, but his heart is blissful. Krishna\u2013prem<\/em> is strange indeed!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

How is Sri Krishna\u2019s kaishor<\/em>?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Sri Krishna\u2019s kaishor<\/em> is manmatha \u2013 tata.<\/em><\/strong> \u2018Tata<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 means source and \u2018manmatha<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 means one who agitates the heart. Therefore, \u2018manmatha-tata\u2019<\/em><\/strong> means \u2018it (Krishna\u2019s Kaishor<\/em>) is the source (cause) of agitation\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>His kaishor<\/em> is sweeter than sweet. Srimad Rupa Gosw\u00e2mi has written, “Krishna\u2019s beauty is inexpressibly sweet.\u201d – [U.N. 10. 33]<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2 said to Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 -“My dear R\u00e2dhe! Sri Krishna\u2019s bluish brilliance that resembles the fresh clouds is stopping the heartbeats of decent damsels. His actions are forcibly stealing their eyes. O Sumukhi[4]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>! How will the women of honourable lineage remain on the path of dharma <\/em>if they are bereft of their hearts and eyes? Madhav\u2019s extreme sweetness is agitating the chastity of these dignified women!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Sweetness\u2019 is defined as \u2018that which steals the heart.\u2019 Sri Krishna is the very embodiment of sweetness; therefore, He is all-captivating. <\/span><\/p>\n

“His hair steals the heart, His attire steals the heart and His garland of M\u00e2lati<\/em> flowers steals the heart. His sparkling gem studded earrings steal the heart and his beautiful tilak<\/em> steals the heart. Look Sakhi<\/em>! How Mohan plays a heart\u2013stealing song on the flute with His heart\u2013stealing lips. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Everything about Him steals the heart – His body, the decoration of chandan<\/em>, His hips and his golden yellow garment. His gait steals the heart, His speech steals the heart and his anklets steal the heart. Everything about the Heart\u2013stealer steals the heart, says poet Shekhar Roy.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When the sakhi<\/em>s heard Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 speaking in this manner they said \u2013 “O simpleton! Is there anyone whose heart he does not steal? But does everyone become mad like you?\u201d Srimati replied \u2013 “chapalyad \u2013 api chapalan cheto vat harati hanta king kurmah?<\/em><\/strong>\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning – “The heart of an adolescent maiden is naturally more fickle than even lightning. So you should blame my heart and not me.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Actually, Srimati\u2019s heart is not at all fickle. It is very serious and deep. Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness steals only the heart of a loving devotee and not a fickle heart. Sri Krishna steals a heart with great force when he finds great prem<\/em>, so Her heart is stolen with maximum force and quickly. However, Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 thinks it is because Her heart is fickle, so it is to be blamed.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another explanation of \u2018Ch\u00e2palyad\u2013api chapalan cheto vat harati hanta king kurmah?\u2019<\/em><\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

Srimati said, “Sri Krishna is verily manmatha\u2013manmatha<\/em>. Therefore, His kaishor<\/em> has stolen my agitated heart and has driven me mad. Therefore, it is His fault. Now what do I do? There is nothing to be done.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How is His kaishor<\/em>? <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is Manmath <\/em>personified. Srila Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d says, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is saying that Sri Krishna is the source of Manmath, which means that Sri Krishna is much more beautiful than Manmath. His kaishor<\/em> is inexpressible. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Vat<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 indicates amazement. The poet is amazed at Sri Krishna\u2019s wonderful kaishor.<\/em> Sri Krishna\u2019s kaishor<\/em> steals the heart. We may ask, “When you know He will steal your heart, must not you try to defend yourself?\u201d The poet replies \u2013 “There is no way I can prevent it \u2013 king kurmah<\/em><\/strong>? What can I do? I have no strength. Under any circumstance, I cannot give up the hope of attaining sakhi<\/em>\u2013bh\u00e2v. Sri Krishna\u2019s kaishor<\/em> is full of Supremely wonderful ras<\/em> in its totality.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

What sort of kaishor<\/em>? <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is more restless than all that is restless. Srila Chaitanya d\u00e2s Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d says, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk feels that Sri Krishna alone is responsible for maddening the heart. Sri Krishna is the source of Manmath \u2013 one who agitates the heart. His inexpressibly sweet kaishor<\/em> steals the heart. \u2018Hanta<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 means \u2018Alas! What do I do?\u2019 We may suggest – let us all get together and hold the heart. Then he will not be able to steal it. <\/span><\/p>\n

To this, the poet replies \u2013 “He has made my heart more restless than everything that is restless. You cannot hold it.\u201d What makes the heart so restless? Sri Krishna\u2019s kaishor<\/em> that is sweeter than sweet. 65.<\/span><\/p>\n
