How sweetly they sang Sri Krishna-<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">kirtan<\/em> with voices that are absorbed in <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem<\/em>! How it purified the three worlds! After going to Brijdh\u00e2m I have repeated sung those songs that would immerse me in the ocean of bliss. It is well\u2013known how I had behaved and what desire I had while I was in Brijdh\u00e2m. O exalted sage! I am afraid that if I glorify them I will start expressing the symptoms of Sri Bhagav\u00e2n\u2019s love-ecstasy and that is extremely painful and disastrous. As a result I cannot say anything more. I beg humbly of you that please do not insist on hearing further about this topic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\">Parikshit said \u2013 &#8220;Mother! Sri Rohini devi had resided for a long time in Gokul, and was very dear to those residents. When she heard Sri Uddhav speaking thus, she understood what he meant. She gazed at him with eyes full of tears and said, &#8220;Dear Uddhav! Please calm down. I have stopped thinking about them, and so I feel little bit happy now. Please don\u2019t bring to memory those <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em> \u2013 they are greatly unfortunate, struck by vast ill-fate, immersed in the ocean of grief, scorched in the forest-fire like <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>, and writhing in pain caused by the venom like separation. Ever since Sri Vasudev had brought me from Gokul, the painful picture of the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em> suffering in the pangs of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> is still today sketched in my memory. At that time, the miserable cries of Mother Yashod\u00e2 had made hard rocks too weep with her; her piteous cry of suffering ahd disintegrated the Thunderbolt<a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn3;\" name=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, and who can describe the condition of Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 and the other Gopis? Who knows whether they are dead or alive? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\">Dear Uddhav! When your <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">guru<\/em> Sri Krishna had returned from the \u00e2shram of His <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">guru<\/em> S\u00e2ndipani, then I had briefed Him about the situation in Brijdh\u00e2m. Although I knew that it was futile, still I told Him to lessen the burden of my heart. My words had certainly not softened your Master, for in stead of going there Himself, He sent you, who are an expert in oratory and ambassadorship. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\">O Uddhav! You have just now glorified the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em> as the \u2018topmost recipient of Sri Krishna-<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">krip\u00e2<\/em>\u2019. Yet, we see that the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em> are struck with ill-fortune. Is this the characteristic of blessedness? When your Lord and Master was in <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijdh\u00e2m<\/em>, He never brought them any joy &#8211; I assure you. I have lived long enough there, to come to this conclusion. Ever since Sri Krishna had gone there, demons have been troublig that land. Starting from Putan\u00e2, right upto Keshi \u2013 there is no limit to the attacks by the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">asurs<\/em>. <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Devat\u00e2s<\/em> such as Varun and pythons too had caused so much trouble! The <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em> never inquired in to the cause of their suffering; neither had they tried to mitigate it. They were only mesmerized by the Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness, and prayed for His welfare. They were never interested in their own welfare. The <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em> had natural love for Him and they whatever they had \u2013 they surrendered to Him, for His pleasure. They knew Him as \u2018Nanda-nandan\u2019<a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn4;\" name=\"_ftnref4\" href=\"#_ftn4\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>; they never considered Him as the \u2018Supreme Being\u2019 or the \u2018Lion of the great Yadu dynasty\u2019. Consequently they were in love with Him and it was possible for them to behave in such a manner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\">Your Master lived in Brijdh\u00e2m purely out of selfish motive, and as long as He did that, He never ever did any favor on the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em>. And now that He has achieved His selfish ends, especially since He is living most happily with His relatives \u2013 what He is doing for them \u2013 we can very well imagine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">(Commentary \u2013 Rohini devi wants to say that \u2013 \u2018Sri Krishna has abandoned the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em>, and is burning them in the tortuous fire of His <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>; one cannot describe how much He is deliberately tormenting them! Here there is none who can feel this pain, so I don\u2019t want to go into the details.\u2019)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\">When the old, senseless, impudent<a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn5;\" name=\"_ftnref5\" href=\"#_ftn5\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> Padmavati (the mother of Kamsa) heard Rohini devi, she shook her head and exclaimed, &#8220;Aho! It is so sad! The Gopas were so cruel to dear Achyut! They sent Him to the dark and deep forest since childhood and engaged Him in cattle-grazing. They did not even give Him shoes although they made Him wander in the thorny woodlands. If driven by hunger, He ever drank little buttermilk or milk, the monstrous Gopis such as Yashod\u00e2 bound Him with ropes meant to tie the cattle! After Yashod\u00e2 had meted out such barbarous treatment to Him, if He, out of hunger, ever drank little milk from the neighbor\u2019s house, they would holler and let loose all hell \u2013 &#8220;O Yashode! Look at this son of yours! He lets loose the calves; He mocks at us if we scold Him, sometimes He steals milk and curds and distributes them to the monkeys\u201d etc. etc. such statements are very famous in Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam, is it not? What could the poor boy do? He was, after all, a mere child. Therefore, He was forced to tolerate all the suffering in silence. He bore tremendous pain and served their cattle; thus He has done them more than enough favor \u2013now what more can He possibly do?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\">Parikshit Mah\u00e2r\u00e2j said \u2013 &#8220;Dear mother! Rohini devi, who was very serious, neglected Padm\u00e2vati\u2019s speech entirely (as if she had not spoken at all), and addressed Uddhav. She said, &#8220;Dear Uddhav! Now your Master has vanquished all His enemies and has become the King of Kings. He is relaxing in the capital of the Y\u00e2davs in peace. Currently even the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">devat\u00e2s<\/em> are offering obeisance at His feet. Alas! Now He no longer remembers those poor <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em>!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\">Rukmini devi, who loves Sri Krishna more than her life, was so far listening silently to Rohini devi\u2019s lamentations. Now she spoke &#8211; &#8220;Dear mother! The Lord is soft like butter from within. Without knowing what is going on in His heart, why do you speak so? The Lord has told me so much about the greatness of Sri Vrind\u00e2ban and He has expressed such remarkable <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">bh\u00e2vs<\/em> \u2013 please hear about them. Do you know, the Lord speaks about <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijdh\u00e2m<\/em> even in His sleep? Soemtimes He lovingly calls out sweetly to His cows \u2013 Gang\u00e2, Yamun\u00e2, Shy\u00e2mali, Dhavali? At other times, He stands in a beautiful <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">tribhanga<\/em>-form. Sometimes He says \u2013 \u2018Mother! Please give me butter!\u2019 Ocasionally He mistakenly addresses me as \u2013 \u2018Dear R\u00e2dhe!\u2019 or \u2018Dear L\u00e2lite!\u2019 Now and then He tugs at the hem of my sari and exclaims, \u2018Dear Chandr\u00e2vali! How can you deceive me so?\u2019 Sometimes, He wets the ground with tears, and other times, He gets up from the bed, crying miserably. We drown in sorrow, when we hear His piteous cries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-no-proof: no;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; tab-stops: right 146.8pt;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-no-proof: no;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">(Commentary \u2013 We should remember that we can control Sri Bhagav\u00e2n only by love, however to what extent we can control Him depends on the type and amount of love. The love of the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brijw\u00e2sis<\/em> is supreme \u2013 amongst them, the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem<\/em> of Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni is the topmost. Consequently, it is natural that they control Sri Bhagav\u00e2n entirely.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>Yet we see that most of the times they are suffering in the pangs of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>. This is because of two sweet <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem-rasas<\/em> \u2013 <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> (separation) and <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">milan<\/em> (conjugation). Both of them arise from <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem<\/em>, and so both are intensely blissful. Our preceptors have accepted <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> as a separate \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em>\u2019 in its own right, since <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> nourishes <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">milan<\/em>. During <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>, externally the lovers burn in separation, however inside they enjoy the intense pleasure of experience of their loved one.
