How is Sri Krishna? <\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Pashu \u2013 p\u00e2la \u2013 b\u00e2la \u2013 parishad \u2013 vibhushanah\u2019<\/strong> – He Who dazzles like a jewel in the assembly of the Gopis.\u2019 Srila Kavi Karnapur has described the R\u00e2s<\/em>\u2013Leel\u00e2<\/em> in Sri \u00c2nanda<\/em>\u2013Vrind\u00e2van\u2013Champuh. Here he has extolled the witty conversation between the Gopis and Sri Krishna, and how the Gopis emerge as the clear winners. His literary style is highly artistic and laudable. <\/span><\/p>\n

“(The Gopis and Sri Krishna are questioning each other) <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopis \u2013 “Ko\u2019mala dhih<\/em>?\u201d Dear Shy\u00e2msundar, tell us, who has a pure heart? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 “komala\u2013dhih<\/em>\u201d \u2013 the one who has a gentle heart is pure. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Gopis asked each other \u2013 Sakhis! How is His heart? Pure or dirty?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>A Gopi answered, His heart is surely black, for He is not gentle but harsh (since He had forsaken them during the R\u00e2s<\/em>\u2013dance).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 “k\u00e2 mahita<\/em>?\u201d \u2013 Beloved, who is great? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 “k\u00e2ma-hita<\/em>\u201d \u2013 the one who performs his duty carefully. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Gopis (to each other) \u2013 O Sakhi! Who has a sense of duty, He or we? Of course, we are most ready to perform our duties. He played the flute and called us here. Then He left us and went away. He did not do His duty, whereas we were very alert in doing our duty, since we wept and searched for Him in each and every forest of Vrind\u00e2van.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 “ko\u2019pachayah<\/em>? \u201d \u2013 Dear one! What should be forsaken? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 “kopa \u2013 chayah<\/em>\u201d –\u00a0 <\/span>sakhis we should forsake anger. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopis (praising and criticizing simultaneously) O sakhis! Of course, He has forsaken anger. He not only forsook us, but even our dear princess R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni. He made Her cry and faint. When he could forsake Her, anger is but insignificant! <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 “madhura k\u00e2<\/em>?\u201d \u2013 Dear Shy\u00e2msundar please answer this one \u2013 what is sweet? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 “madhu\u2013r\u00e2k\u00e2<\/em>\u201d –\u00a0 <\/span>O\u00a0 <\/span>sakhis the vernal full moon is sweet. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopis \u2013 This Sharad Purnim\u00e2 is even more beautiful, but then, Krishna, you have no knowledge of sweet and bitter. Who called you \u2018Rasik\u2013shekhar<\/em>\u2019?\u00a0 <\/span>How terrible and bitter you made this sweet Sharad Purnim\u00e2! <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 “ke bala \u2013 bh\u00e2jah<\/em>\u201d \u2013 Beloved! Tell us, who is strong? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 “kevala \u2013 bhajah<\/em>\u201d – the one who performs Bhajan<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopis (to each other) \u2013 Sakhis! He is not strong, since He has not performed any bhajan<\/em>; instead He has made us suffer the pangs of viraha<\/em>. Rather we have performed His bhajan<\/em>. Therefore, we are stronger.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 “ke santa eva?\u201d<\/em> Dearest, say, who is wise? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 “he santah\u201d<\/em> \u2013 the one who is free from worry and is always happy. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopis (to each other) \u2013 we are simple innocent girls. He had filled us with so much anxiety by forsaking us \u2013 what sort of a wise man is He?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 <\/span>“<\/span> <\/span>ka s\u00e2ra \u2013 ras \u2013 vil\u00e2sa?<\/span><\/em> \u201d<\/span> <\/span>O dear one! Who sports in the essence of ras<\/em>? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 ” k\u00e2s\u00e2ra- ras \u2013 vil\u00e2saiva<\/em> \u201d the one who sports in the water of a lake (k\u00e2s\u00e2r<\/em>) \u2013 that is, the lotus\u2013bud is great! The Gopis were jubilant for they are like the lotus\u2013buds. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now Sri Krishna started questioning the Gopis.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 \u2018ka upasyah<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 whom should we worship? <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi – \u2018yo rasv\u00e2n<\/em>\u2019 – the one who is the abode of prem<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna \u2013 \u2018kim prem<\/em>?\u2019 what is prem<\/em>?<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 \u2018yad \u2013 aviyogah<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 in which there is no separation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Krishna \u2013 \u2018kah sa viyogah<\/em>? \u2013 what is separation?<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 \u2018na yena jivanti\u2019<\/em>\u00a0 <\/span>– in which one cannot live.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this round, also the Gopis were victorious, since, Sri Krishna did not grieve in their separation, which indicates His lack of love. This in turn proved He had no ras<\/em> and not worthy of being worshiped. The Gopis winked at each other.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once again, Sri Krishna asked \u2013 \u2018kim duhkham<\/em>?\u2019 \u2013 What is sorrow? <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 \u2018priya virahah<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 separation from one\u2019s love. <\/span><\/p>\n

Krishna \u2013 \u2018kim priyam<\/em>?\u2019 \u2013 What is love? <\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 \u2018ati durlabham yadiha<\/em>\u2019- that which is extremely rare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Krishna \u2013 \u2018kim durlabham<\/em>?\u2019 – What is rare?<\/span><\/p>\n

Gopi \u2013 \u2018prak\u00e2rair \u2013 akhilair \u2013 api<\/em>\u2019 – what you cannot obtain by any means.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna is their love and He is rare (difficult to obtain). Therefore, they suffer when they are separated from Him. However, Sri Krishna does not suffer since He lacks love. He is full of bliss when the Gopis prove they are superior to Him. He rejoices in their assembly. <\/span><\/p>\n

Once again, how is Sri Krishna? <\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018sheetala \u2013 vilola \u2013 lochanah\u2019<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 He has soothing and restless gaze that is most attractive. 71.<\/span><\/p>\n
