He has enthralled even Arundhati\u2019s<\/span><\/span>[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> heart with His beautiful charming smile; the liberated sages behold Him with divine eyes, He is performing ever-new love sports on the empire of the Brajabeauties\u2019 bosom (He is the sole Lord of this empire). \u2013 That Sri Krishna, Who is Bliss personified, is revealing Himself in my heart.87.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

rila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi explains: Sri Lil\u00e2shuk, who is simultaneously in the s\u00e2dhak<\/em> state <\/span>and siddha<\/em> state, is exultant when He beholds the Supremely sweet Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna looks so luscious that the poet has reached the dizzy heights of passion and desire. Sri Krishna appears as the very embodiment of joy. Sri Lil\u00e2shuk has recited this verse in such a mood of happiness. Sri Krishna\u2019s effulgence is Bliss \u2013 it is the source of all pleasure. This pleasure appears new with each moment. <\/span><\/p>\n

The poet glanced all around and said, <\/span>“R\u00e2dh\u00e2-payodhar-otsanga-sh\u00e2yine-ashesha-sh\u00e2yine\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong> \u2013 “<\/span>I pay obeisance to the One Who lies close to Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2\u2019s bosom, and I pay obeisance to the One Who lies on Ashesha.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The bosom of the Brajabeauties is Sri Krishna\u2019s empire and the place that gives Him utmost pleasure. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

“Krishna is the embodiment of joy. His Hl\u00e2dini Shakti<\/em> delights the devotees. If we distil Hl\u00e2dini, <\/em>we get prem.<\/em> It is full of blissful and conscious ras.<\/em> I know Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v<\/em> to be the supremely condensed form of prem, <\/em>and Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 Th\u00e2kur\u00e2ni is That Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Although Sri Krishna Himself is Bliss, Hl\u00e2dini Shakti <\/em>has the power to make Him joyful. Sri Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2, Who is Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v, is the source of Hl\u00e2dini Shakti.<\/em> The Brajab\u00e2l\u00e2s<\/em> are Her expansions. Sri Krishna is Eros Himself, yet only Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 can satisfy His erotic desire.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

This part of the verse may also mean, \u2018The Gopis have beautiful breasts and Sri Krishna is the only Person from Whom they derive supreme pleasure.\u2019 The Brajadevis<\/em> do not possess a hint of selfish desire, yet their happiness knows no bounds when they can make Sri Krishna happy. Sri Chaitanya Charit\u00e2mrita says \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

“The Gopis possess another incredible quality. It is inconceivable! When they behold Sri Krishna, although they do not desire any happiness, their joy increases manifold. They relish their meeting crores of times more than Krishna relishes the pleasure. Does it not seem strange that they do not desire happiness, yet they feel happy? Well, this question has only one solution. The Gopik\u00e2s revel in Krishna\u2019s pleasure. When Sri Krishna sees the Gopis His joy increases and His sweetness crosses all limits. The Gopi thinks, “Oh how wonderful! Krishna is happy to see me!\u201d And her looks transform like a fully blossomed flower.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

“The Gopis\u2019 beauty and excellences verily delight Sri Krishna. When the Gopis see that Sri Krishna is happy, they become even more pleased. In this manner, their pleasure makes Sri Krishna joyful. Therefore, the love of the Gopis is not tainted by lust.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi has explained<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/span>\u00c2tan-v\u00e2nam-ananya-janma-nayana-shl\u00e2ghy\u00e2m-anarghy\u00e2n dash\u00e2m\u2019<\/span><\/em> in the following manner. Sri Krishna manifests an inexpressible beauty such that He can mesmerize countless Manmath<\/em>s. Two eyes are highly inadequate for experiencing His infinite beauty. The poet realized this shortcoming and prayed for innumerable eyes. Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu has bemoaned \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“When one has collected abundant pious deeds, one gets His darshan. <\/em>This sweetness is a vast ocean – how much can two eyes drink from it? So my thirst doubles and when I do not get it, I am full of regret. I cannot help but criticise Vidhi (Brahma) \u2013 \u2018O, why did he not give me lakhs of crores of eyes? O, why did he make only two eyes? And that too he covered them with eyelids! Vidhi only knows how to practice dry austerity. How can he appreciate ras?<\/em> He does not know how to create at all. He makes me two-eyed \u2013 I, who will behold Krishna\u2019s face! In spite of being Vidhi<\/span><\/span>[2]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, he is so unjust! He should take my advice and give me crores of eyes \u2013 then I shall accept that he is worthy of being the creator.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Lil\u00e2shuk knew that the male body is not fit to relish Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness so he prayed for the female form. Then he realized that an ordinary woman is incapable of relishing Sri Krishna\u2019s immense sweetness. Therefore, he humbly said, “What is the use of being a woman other than a Brajasundari? Only if we have Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v<\/em> will we be able to relish the sweetness of the transcendental youthful Love-god of Vrind\u00e2ban (Sri Krishna)\u201d. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“We can relish Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness only in the mature stage of prem<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When it is so difficult to get Sri Krishna\u2019s darshan<\/em> – what to speak of relishing it? Only the Brajabeauties can behold Him as well as relish Him. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The poet beheld Sri Krishna\u2019s charming grace and said,<\/span><\/span> “<\/span><\/span>\u00c2chin-v\u00e2namahanyahani s\u00e2k\u00e2r\u00e2n vih\u00e2rakram\u00e2n<\/span><\/em>\u201d \u2013 “He manifests new styles of charm every day, every time, and every moment.\u201d We may ask, “If all women, other than Brajadevis<\/em>, are incapable of relishing Sri Krishna\u2019s beauty, then why should they take His darshan<\/em>? Is it not better they should stay quietly at home?\u201d The poet scolds us \u2013 “Do you not know He is \u2018\u00e2ruddh\u00e2nam-arundhati-hridayam-apy-\u00e2rdra-smit\u00e2rdra-shriy\u00e2<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 Sri Krishna\u2019s lazy, enchanting smile has aroused deep passion even in Arundhati, who is famous for her chastity? There is no woman in the universe that Sri Krishna\u2019s sweet beauty does not agitate. His handsomeness is fatal for every woman. When Sri Krishna ignored the Gopis on the night of the R\u00e2s<\/em>-dance, they said \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

O Krishna! Is there any woman in the universe that Your sweet beauty does not arouse? Is there any woman who does not forget the path of righteousness after hearing the sweet song of Your flute? <\/span>Let alone women, Your all-enchanting looks and flute cause goose bumps even on the birds, deer and cattle! They become so full of joy!\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu has savoured this verse \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“N\u00e2gar!<\/em> You decide and tell me. Is there any worthy woman in the universe that Your flute does not enchant? The music of Your flute is verily a most accomplished witch who is an agent set out to beguile women. Anyway, they are already eager and Your flute adds fuel to the fire. It makes them give up the Aryan culture and drags them to Your feet.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You force them to forsake Dharma<\/em> with Your flute; You shoot arrows of passion with Your eyes and devastate their shame, fear and everything. How dare You show anger on us and accuse us of forsaking our husbands and children? You are teaching us Dharma as if You are very Dh\u00e2rmik<\/em><\/span><\/span>[3]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> Yourself! You have one thing on Your mind yet You speak another thing and behave in a third manner! All these are the signs of a cheat. It is all right for You to joke, but Your jest is killing us. The flute-song consists of Amritam<\/em>, sounds as sweet as Amritam<\/em> and is decked in Amritam<\/em>! Three forms of Amritam<\/em> steal the ears, the heart and the soul. How do You expect women to survive?\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Krishna\u2019s beauty attracts even men. Then how can women rest in peace? Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness is all-captivating.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Sri Krishna attracts everyone \u2013 be it man, woman, the moving or the non-moving. He is verily the Love-god who agitates everyone\u2019s hearts.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We find in Sri Padma Pur\u00e2n that in Tret\u00e2 yug<\/em> when Sri R\u00e2mchandra went to the Dandak\u00e2ranya<\/span><\/span>[4]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, some Rishis, who worshiped Sri Vrind\u00e2vanchandra, saw Him. The Lord\u2019s beauty enchanted them so much that they had a great desire to relish Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness. By Sri R\u00e2mchandra\u2019s mercy, they took birth in Braja from the Gopi\u2019s wombs. In this manner, they got to serve Sri Krishna and were blest. Therefore, we see that no one can remain composed after seeing Sri Krishna.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d explains that Sri Lil\u00e2shuk has declared the truth when He says \u2013 Sri Krishna is lying on the bed that is – <\/span>the Gopis\u2019 bosom. And the poet has realized the swarup <\/em>of Sri Krishna. He is \u2018\u00e2nandam brahma\u2019<\/em> \u2013 eternal and supreme bliss. Does that mean He is Impersonal? The poet replies \u2013 “No, He is the One Who reigns over the bosom of the Gopis.\u201d The following verses from the Vedas prove that Brahman is bliss.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“\u00e2nandam brahmeti vyajan\u00e2t\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

“satyang gy\u00e2nam \u00e2nandam<\/span><\/em>\u201d etc.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Swayam Bhagav\u00e2n Sri Krishna is the condensed form of Brahman. He Himself has stated in Sri Git\u00e2 \u2013 “I am the seat (source) of Brahman.\u201d Sridhar Sw\u00e2mip\u00e2d has stated in his explanation that, \u2018form\u2019 is the synonym for \u2018seat\u2019 and Sri Krishna is nothing but the concentrated form of Brahman.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Sri Krishna\u2019s effulgence is supremely brilliant. The Upanishads call it very pure Brahman.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And if we concentrate Sri Krishna\u2019s bliss and express it to the maximum degree \u2013 that is the R\u00e2s<\/em>–leel\u00e2<\/em>. The one who gets to behold such a supremely delightful Ocean of joy, to him the entire universe will transform into Nectar \u2013 do you harbour any doubt about it? Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is one of the blessed devotees who are doing plenty of swimming in the Ocean of ras<\/em>. He is saying from his own experience \u2013 “Bliss Himself has appeared before me.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is He doing?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He is revealing new love-sports every day that are getting more wonderful and are sweeter as each moment passes. Therefore, He stops the heartbeats of even Arundhati with His charming, lazy and bewitching smile. This proves His smile enchants all the universes. He destroys the Dharma<\/em> of the women who set the standards for chastity, what to speak of others?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How is His beauty?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Beauty traverses through every part of His body. \u2018ananya-janma-nayana-shl\u00e2ghy\u00e2m<\/em>\u2019 means \u2018He is worthy of an appreciating gaze\u2019. \u2018Ananya-janm\u00e2\u2019<\/em> also refers to the Love-god. Therefore this part of the verse may mean \u2013 \u2018He firmly enchants the Love-god.\u2019 87.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
