O Krishna, my words have obtained Your shelter, so they are meaningful.\u201d Some texts have the word \u2018<em>j\u00e2te<\/em>\u2019 instead of \u2018<em>y\u00e2te<\/em>\u2019 (in the last line of the verse). In that case, the meaning will be \u2013&#8221;my life has become meaningful\u201d. <!--more-->The poets worship Goddess Sa<em>ras<\/em>wati (who is the presiding deity of speech) to compose poetry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"border: 3pt solid windowtext; padding: 1pt 4pt 1pt 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 7.25pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"border: medium none; padding: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: &quot;Comic Sans MS&quot;;\">When Sa<em>ras<\/em>wati Devi appears in the voice-box of a poet, if he glorifies Sri Bhagav\u00e2n, then the Goddess feels blessed. On the other hand, if he describes the material world, she thinks it is a waste of her time and labour to have descended from Brahmalok. She repents for having appeared in that poet\u2019s larynx. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is saying, &#8220;O my Lord, all good things become useful only after they do Your seva. Similarly, my words too are blest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">How are his words?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">They are \u2018<strong><em>madhuramakir\u00e2m<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 \u2013 sweet and poetic. Earlier my glorifications were under the influence of my past bad qualities. Therefore, they were falling short of the standard. Now, whatever I am saying is very lofty \u2013 they are free of any shortcoming. They are spontaneous, natural and ecstatic. Life is flickering. Prior to this moment, I have wasted my life, but now that I am singing Your all glory tofore You, my life has become successful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">When Sri Uddhav saw the Gopis, he had praised them \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8220;These Gopis of Braja are the only ones with exquisite bodies, since only these bodies can tolerate the topmost <em>prem<\/em>, that is, Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v. It is a great offence to look upon their bodies as those belonging to ordinary women. We should remember that the One Whom they love is the source of Param\u00e2tm\u00e2 \u2013 Who is the soul of all the souls. How can I extol their Bh\u00e2v? The ones who seek liberation, the ones who are already liberated, and we, who are His eternal associates in the servile mood, can only long for this Bh\u00e2v, but cannot procure it. Some people do not savour the infinitely sweet Sri Krishna-Kath\u00e2 \u2013 to them, what is the use of three Brahminical births<a name=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span><!--[if !supportFootnotes]--><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><\/span><\/span><\/a>?\u201d \u2013 (Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam.10.47.58)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">When it is so rare to find someone who is interested in Sri Hari-Kath\u00e2, then how much rarer is the <em>Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v<\/em> of the <em>Vraj\u00e2ngan\u00e2s<\/em>! However, the birth of all Gopis is not worthwhile. What about those Gopis who have given their hearts to their husbands? No, we cannot agree that their lives are beneficial. A few Gopis were unable to go to the R\u00e2s. They decided to give up their bodies. Then they abandoned the material bodies and attended the R\u00e2s festival in transcendental bodies that were eternal and blissful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The poet mentions <strong>three qualities<\/strong> of the Gopis \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 18pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: Symbol;\"><span>\u00a9<span style=\"font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; -x-system-font: none;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Madana-vinat\u00e2<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> \u2013 they bow under the pressure of Madan (<em>k\u00e2m<\/em>). Goutamiya-tantra says \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8220;<em>prem<\/em><em>aiva gopar\u00e2m\u00e2n\u00e2ng k\u00e2ma itya-gamat prath\u00e2m\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span> <\/span>Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita translates it as \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8220;The Gopis\u2019 <em>prem<\/em> is highly exalted. We call it \u2018Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v\u2019. It is extremely pure <em>prem<\/em> (uncontaminated with any desire for sense gratification). No one can ever call it \u2018lust\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: right;\" align=\"right\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2013 (Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita.\u00c2di.4.139)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 18pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: Symbol;\"><span>\u00a9<span style=\"font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; -x-system-font: none;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Lol\u00e2<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> \u2013 they are extremely thirsty for You. Their thirst is never quenched. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span> <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span> <\/span>&#8220;The thirst is never satiated, it increases constantly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: right;\" align=\"right\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2013 (Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita.\u00c2di.4.130)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 18pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: Symbol;\"><span>\u00a9<span style=\"font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; -x-system-font: none;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Galad<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8211;<strong><em>breed\u00e2 \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>they have forsaken societal norms, Vedic norms, shame, fear and decency. They have been highly anxious to obtain You and have succeeded in the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8220;The Gopis discarded societal norms, Vedic strictures, difficulties posed by the body, their karma, shame, self-control, material pleasures, spiritual pleasures, the Aryan sense of righteousness (that is impossible to abandon), kith and kin, loving ones, and all the abuse heaped on them. They gave up everything and performed Sri Krishna-Bhajan. They serve Sri Krishna lovingly to make Him happy. We call this \u2018very deep <em>anur\u00e2g<\/em> for Krishna\u2019. It is like clean and washed cloth without any stain on it.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: right;\" align=\"right\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: right;\" align=\"right\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2013 (Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita.\u00c2di.4.143-146)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">When Sri Lil\u00e2shuk beheld the sweetness of Sri Krishna\u2019s adolescence, He drew a sharp breath and gushed \u2013 &#8220;Wow! This is the age!\u201d He wanted to say some more, but the sweetness stupefied him and all he could utter was \u2013 &#8220;This is Sri Krishna\u2019s indescribable age!\u201d The Gopa maidens\u2019 lives are successful because they have obtained You at this age.\u2019 \u2018<strong><em>Veetam mada-spheetam\u2019<\/em><\/strong> means \u2018Sri Krishna\u2019s childhood has nearly faded and He is on the threshold of youth. Therefore He is inebriated with youthful passion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Sri Krishna is saying, &#8220;Ohe Lil\u00e2shuk, there are many divine and non- divine beings at the \u2018<em>kishor<\/em>\u2019 stage. Why? Their age too may be worthy!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The poet is replying, &#8220;No, my Lord, I\u2019m afraid it\u2019s not so. The non-divine (material) being\u2019s <em>kishor-<\/em>age is fleeting; hence, it is futile. As for the divine <em>kishors<\/em> \u2013 they do not perform <em>R\u00e2s<\/em> or loving sports in the flower groves. You have made Your <em>kishor-<\/em>age profitable by spending loving moments with the Gopis during the <em>R\u00e2s-leel\u00e2.<\/em><span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Sri Vishnu Pur\u00e2n says \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8220;Sri Madhusudan paid homage to His<em> kishor-<\/em>age and to make it triumphant, He performed the <em>R\u00e2s<\/em>-sport with the Gopis on those nights of Sharad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8220;At the break of dawn, Sri Krishna revealed Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni\u2019s expertise at love-making to the sakhis (by showing them Her nail-marks on His body). He also made Her squirm with embar<em>ras<\/em>sment by describing boldly how She assumed the position of the male counterpart during love-making \u2013 and when She had closed Her eyes in discomfiture, He stole an opportunity to draw artistic designs of crocodiles making love to one another on Her breasts. He did this to prove Himself a <em>pukka<a name=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span><!--[if !supportFootnotes]--><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/span><\/strong><\/span><!--[endif]--><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/em> Pandit. In this manner, by performed amorous pastimes in the <em>kunja<\/em>, Sri Krishna made His <em>kishor <\/em>age meaningful.\u201d \u2013 (Bhakti-Ras\u00e2mrita-Sindhu2.1.231.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Then the poet saw Sri Krishna dancing swiftly and said, &#8220;<strong><em>\u2019ch\u00e2palyadhur\u00e2\u2019<\/em> \u2013 <\/strong>You are<strong> <\/strong>extremely sweet in His swiftness.\u201d We may ask, &#8220;What is so special about it, since even the wind and water are sometimes very swift?\u201d Sri Lil\u00e2shuk answers, &#8220;But You are extraordinary. You are dancing swiftly amidst crores of Gopis like a ring of light in just one body, and in this manner, You fulfilled their heartfelt desire. Hence, this swiftness is extremely captivating \u2013 we cannot find it elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8220;All the Gopis prayed &#8211; O Aghahara<a name=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span><!--[if !supportFootnotes]--><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><\/span><\/span><\/a>! Please dance with me. To fulfil their prayer, Sri Krishna danced so swiftly that each Gopi felt He was with her.\u201d \u2013 (Bhakti-Ras\u00e2mrita-Sindhu2.1.90)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Earlier I had failed to describe these excellent qualities and <em>leel\u00e2s<\/em>. I had spent my flickering life in a futile manner. Now I have obtained You. Therefore, my compositions are victorious.
