Pippall\u00e2i Suri of Deccan<a name=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a> has written purports to all the three Shatakam.\u00a0 His purport is called \u2018Suvarna Chashak&#8217; (The Gold Goblet)<a name=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>.\u00a0 Six copies of this purport are kept secure in the Library of the Madr\u00e2s Government. V\u00e2nivil\u00e2s Press of Sri Rangam has published them. There is another purport called \u2018Karn\u00e2nanda prak\u00e2shini&#8217; (Delight of the auditory senses).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>SRI KRISHNA-VALLABH\u00c2 PURPORT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Srila Gop\u00e2l Bhatta has written this purport. <!--more-->At the end, he has introduced himself in the following manner &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<em>shrimad-dr\u00e2vida-nivrid-ambudhi-vidhuh shriman-nrisimho&#8217; bhavad bhatta <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em> shri harivamsha uttama guna-gramaikabhus-tat-sutah, <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>tat-putrasya kritis-tviyam vitanutam gopala-namno mudam<\/em>,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>gopinatha-padara-vinda-makaranada-ananda-cheto&#8217;linah<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meaning &#8211; &#8220;Sriman-Nrisimha shone like the moon amongst the Dravidian<a name=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a> people. His son Sri Harivamsha Bhatta had many superior qualities. This work is composed by his son Gop\u00e2l, whose heart is ever joyful in drinking the nectar of the lotus feet of Sri Gopin\u00e2th (Krishna)&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After reading this verse we may feel that this writer is not the same Gop\u00e2l Bhatta who belongs to the group of \u2018The Six Gosw\u00e2mis&#8217;, since, his father was named Venkat Bhatta, who lived in Belgandi Village, near Sri Rangam on the banks of river K\u00e2veri.\u00a0 However, according to the texts \u2018Bhaktiratn\u00e2kar&#8217; and \u2018Anur\u00e2gvalli&#8217;, the writer of Krishna-Vallabh\u00e2 purport is none other than Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta of the Six Gosw\u00e2mis.\u00a0 Bhaktiratn\u00e2kar says &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;sri gop\u00e2l Bhatta hon benkatnandan<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>sri benkat bhatter nibas dakshinete<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>bishishta brahman bignya sakal shastrete<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>trimalla, benkat ar sri prabodhananda,<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>e tin bhratar prana-dhan gourchandra<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>korilen krishna karnamriter tippani,<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>baishnaber aparam ananda taha shuni&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meaning &#8211; &#8220;Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta was the son of Sri Venkat Bhatta who resided in South India. He (Sri Venkat Bhatta) was a qualified brahmin and well learned in all the scriptures. Trimalla, Venkat and Prabodh\u00e2nanda were three brothers. They considered Gourachandra to be their life and soul. Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta wrote the purport to Krishna Karn\u00e2mritam.\u00a0 When the Vaishnavs heard this purport, they were most delighted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Again, in Anur\u00e2gvalli, we find-<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;sri bhatta gonsai karnamriter tika koilo,<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>ashesh bshesh byakhya tahate likhilo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>jahar darshane pandite chamatkar<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>rasa paripati jate siddhanter s\u00e2r.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meaning &#8211; &#8220;Sri Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mi wrote a purport to Karn\u00e2mritam. He wrote many special explanatory notes. Reading this, the pandits were wonder struck.\u00a0 It was full of <em>ras <\/em>as well as philosophical principles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The internal analysis of the purport too indicates that Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta who was a contemporary of Sri Rupa and San\u00e2tan and was a part of the \u2018Six Gosw\u00e2mis&#8217; wrote it. Just as Sri Rupa and San\u00e2tan have proved their statements by quoting from many scriptures, he too has drawn evidences from Chh\u00e2ndogya-Upanishad, P\u00e2nini, K\u00e2tantra-vy\u00e2karan, Gop\u00e2lottar-T\u00e2pani, Vishnupur\u00e2n, Harivamsha, Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2rat, \u00c2dipur\u00e2n, Matsyapur\u00e2n, Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam, Sridhar Sw\u00e2mi&#8217;s Bh\u00e2v\u00e2rtha Dipik\u00e2 purport, Amar-Kosh, Medini-Kosh, Vishwa-Kosh, Vaijayanti-Kosh, Dhwanikosh, Raghuvamsha, M\u00e2gh, Bh\u00e2ravi, Naishadhiya, Geet-Govindam, Vy\u00e2di, S\u00e2hitya-Darpan, Sangeet-Ratn\u00e2kar, N\u00e2gar-Sarvaswa or Kok, Chhando-Manjari and Shri\u00a0 Rup&#8217;s Bhakti-Ras\u00e2mrita-Sindhu, Ujjawal-Nilamani and Pady\u00e2vali.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From this, we conclude that our Gosw\u00e2mis had a huge library. Srila Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mi&#8217;s purport contains exactly the same principles as those propounded by Srila Rupa-San\u00e2tan.\u00a0 He has not written anything that is against the Goudiya Vaishnav Siddh\u00e2nta.\u00a0 In this purport, we find the same depth of knowledge<em>, ras<\/em> and the ability to highlight even the slightest difference in the concepts. Again, these traits are exactly the same as those of Sri Rup-San\u00e2tan. Then why is it that at the end of the purport he mentions his father&#8217;s name as \u2018Harivamsha Bhatta&#8217;?\u00a0 Some scholars believe that his father was chief amongst the Bhatta&#8217;s of the region called Venkat.\u00a0 Hence, he was popularly known as \u2018Venkat Bhatta&#8217;; however, his original name was Harivamsha Bhatta.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This explanation seems all right to us.\u00a0 The Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2vallabh sect too has a famous person called Harivamsha. But he had four sons and none of them was named Gop\u00e2l.\u00a0 His father was Sri Keshodas Mishraji and he was born in B\u00e2d<a name=\"_ftnref4\" href=\"#_ftn4\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a> village of Gokul.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More than a hundred years before the advent of Sri Narahari (the composer of Sri Bhaktiratn\u00e2kar), Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2-Krishna Gosw\u00e2mi had written \u2018S\u00e2dhan-Dipik\u00e2&#8217;.\u00a0 In this book, he had given a list of all the important texts composed by the Goudiya Vaishnavs.\u00a0 There he had written (pg. No.257) &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<em>sri gop\u00e2la-bhatta-goswami-p\u00e2danam sri-bh\u00e2gavata-sandarbha-sri krishna &#8211; karn\u00e2mrita-tik\u00e2dih<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meaning &#8211; &#8220;The purport to Sri Krishna-Karn\u00e2mritam is written by Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mi.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2-Krishna Gosw\u00e2mi was the disciple of Sri Harid\u00e2s Pandit who was the Chairperson of the sev\u00e2 trustee of Sri Govinda Mandir and the grand-disciple of Sri Gad\u00e2dhar Pandit who was the most confidential associate of Sri Chaitanyadev.\u00a0 Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 Krishn\u00e2 Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d&#8217;s statement is very important since he was the disciple of the great Sri Harid\u00e2s Pandit. After all, Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi had embarked on Sri Chaitanya Charit\u00e2mrita on the order of Srila Harid\u00e2s Pandit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The biggest proof that this purport has been written by Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mi of \u2018the Six Gosw\u00e2mi&#8217; fame is that, this purport was copied and preserved in Ben\u00e2ras Sanskrit University library as Book No.42.\u00a0 At that time, there was one and only one Pandit Gop\u00e2l Bhatta in Vrind\u00e2van.\u00a0 The year is recorded as 1605 AD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some say that if Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mi (of The Six Gosw\u00e2mis) wrote Sri Krishna-Vallabh\u00e2 purport then Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j would have surely taken some ideas from it while writing his S\u00e2ranga-Rangad\u00e2 purport to Sri Krishna-Karn\u00e2mritam.\u00a0 After all, he has borrowed from Srila Chaitanya d\u00e2s&#8217;s Subodhani purport, hasn&#8217;t he?\u00a0 However, we brush aside this argument, since we find that in Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita although Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi has mentioned Sri Gop\u00e2l Bhatta as his Shiksh\u00e2-Guru, he has not described anything about him.
