It extremely subjugates Sri Krishna <!--more-->and it contains the desire for love-making. The slightest fragrance of this passion makes the devotee forget her creed, virtue, self-control, shame and everything else. It is very intense and even a minute trace of any other <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">bh\u00e2v<\/em> cannot adulterate it.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Now let us learn about the different types of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">madhur\u00e2-rati<\/em> or sweet passion (here, sweet passion refers to conjugal passion). They are of three types \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"margin-top: 0cm;\" type=\"1\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">s\u00e2dh\u00e2rani<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> or ordinary \u2013 eg. women like Kubj\u00e2 in Mathura.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">samanjas\u00e2<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> \u2013 intermediary \u2013 eg. the queens of Dw\u00e2rak\u00e2<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">samarth\u00e2<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> \u2013 self-independent \u2013 like the Braja-maidens.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The \u2018desire for love-making\u2019 is of two types \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"margin-top: 0cm;\" type=\"1\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">we want our lover to please our senses<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">we wish to make the lover happy by making love to His sense organs. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">We call the first one as \u2018lust\u2019 and the second one as \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">rati<\/em>\u2019. So now we shall continue to use the word \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">rati<\/em>\u2019 in stead of passion. Here, we should be certain about one thing\u2014in the relation between Sri Bhagav\u00e2n and His devotees there exists <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">rati<\/em> and not lust, since He never has relation with a devotee who has lust. However, it\u2019s also true that although we desire to make love to our beloved to make him happy, we are bound to gain pleasure due to His touch as well. It is impossible to avoid this delight. The devotees who are in <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">s\u00e2dh\u00e2rani<\/em> and <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">samanjas\u00e2 rati<\/em> do wish to please Sri Krishna, but at the same time they have an immensely strong desire for self-pleasure too. However, the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Brajab\u00e2l\u00e2s\u2019 samarth\u00e2-rati<\/em> is so powerful that they are absorbed only in Sri Krishna\u2019s happiness \u2013 they lose all sense of self-pleasure. This is why Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita (\u00e2di, 4<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup> ch) is saying \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;The gopi does not consider her own joy and sorrow; she only strives to delight Sri Krishna. She abandons all but Him and possesses pure <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">anur\u00e2g<\/em> for Sri Krishna. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">But then do we not see the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">gopi<\/em> express affection for her own body? Well, know for sure that she does it only to please Sri Krishna. She thinks \u2013 \u2018I have surrendered this body to Shy\u00e2m, it is now for His enjoyment; when He sees it and touches it, he feels happy\u2019 \u2013 therefore the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">gopi<\/em> cleans and decorates herself.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">We may ask \u2013 if the Gopis do not seek happiness, then they will not do it, yet happiness is the goal of life. Then how can we say that <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopi-prem<\/em> is the topmost goal? Who wants to have a goal that does not lead to joy? Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita answers \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;When the Gopis merely set their eyes on Sri Krishna, they are immersed in joy, although they do not seek it. What joy Sri Krishna feels on seeing the Gopis, they feel an ecstasy that is a million times more than His happiness. They do not want joy, yet their happiness keeps on increasing. This seems contradictory.
