Now we are able to understand that \u2018smara\u2019<\/em> is nothing but the deep anur\u00e2g<\/em> felt by the gopis<\/em> for Sri Krishna. If a dry log of wood has a splinter of fire inside it, and we blow into it using a blow-pipe, then the fire is kindles, burns the wood and manifests outside. Similarly Govinda blew into His flute and kindles the erotic fire smouldering in their bosom. It razed to ashes their decency, self-control, shame and virtue. At last the flute forced the love to manifest itself. As they continued to hear the flute-song they became mad and overwhelmed. The current of erotic ras<\/em> started gushing through every vein in their body. The Madan (love-God) of the material world has no effect on the Brajagopis<\/em>; their heart is the playground for the youthful Love-God (Sri Krishna) of the transcendental world. <\/span><\/p>\n

“j\u00e2h\u00e2n<\/em> r\u00e2m, tah\u00e2n n\u00e2hi k\u00e2m,<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

jah\u00e2n k\u00e2m, tah\u00e2n n\u00e2hi r\u00e2m,<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

dono ki ek s\u00e2th rahe, ravi rajani ek th\u00e2m.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Meaning – “Lust cannot exist where God exists, and where there is lust, one will not find God. Just as the sun and the night cannot exist together, it is impossible that both God and lust co-exist\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The pores of the flute played by Madan-mohan ceaselessly struck flower-arrows. Madan has five flower-arrows, viz. aravinda, ashok, choota, nava-mallik\u00e2 <\/em>and the red lotus.<\/em> They have five functions \u2013 to hypnotize, arouse madness, cause dryness, and stupefy. When the five arrows of this youth Love-God struck them, all self-control of the gop-kishoris<\/em> turned to dust. They started writhing in pain like odes struck down by the bewitching arrows of the Supreme Wizard. Yet, they could not reveal their feelings to anyone. How could they? At the same time, how could they remain still? The smooth and stunning Handsome One had entered their hearts \u2013 they tried countless means to forget Him, but they could not. <\/span><\/p>\n

“p\u00e2shoribo kori mone \u2013 pashor\u00e2 n\u00e2 jaay go, ki koribo up\u00e2y?\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Meaning – “I want to forget Him, but it is impossible, what to do?\u201d \u2013 (Mah\u00e2jan poem)<\/span><\/p>\n

They had no other option but to confide in each other. So they took courage to speak to one another and decided to meet in a lonely place. Although they met, they dared not to talk. Tremendous shyness choked their voice. Simultaneously, they were thrown in the throes of a powerful bh\u00e2v<\/em>. And just as they forgot themselves, the flute started singing \u2013 “<\/span>R\u00e2dhe R\u00e2dhe – Jay Sri R\u00e2dhe!!!\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni became impatient; She lost self-control and blurted out Her opinion about the flute to Her intimate sakhi<\/em>. The original verse<\/span>[1]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> says \u2013 “certain Braja-ramanis[2]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/em> heard Sri Krishna\u2019s flute-song, and concealing their inner feelings they started describing the song to their own sakhis<\/em>.\u201d Laghu-toshani explanation says \u2013 “The word \u2018k\u00e2shchit<\/em>\u2019 indicates those gopis<\/em> who had special feelings for Sri Krishna such as Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni and Chandr\u00e2vali. \u2018Swa\u2019<\/em> signifies that they were revealing their emotions to their intimate sakhis<\/em>, and we should understand that the sakhis<\/em> of these sakhis <\/em>were definitely not present over there. This also tell us that these girls are extremely decent, bashful, humble, soft, disciplined and well-mannered. Moreover we learn that they spoke of the flute-song indirectly, hiding their personal emotions. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Brajendra-nandan is Shring\u00e2r-rasa-r\u00e2j<\/em> personified. Now, the \u2018Shring\u00e2r-ras[3]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>\u2019<\/em> residing in Braja wants to make Him relish Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni\u2019s sweet bh\u00e2v<\/em> in a very special manner. Therefore he arranged the beloveds of Braja in four groups with Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni, the crest-jewel of all sweethearts as the centre. These four groups are as follows \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

  1. swa-paksh\u00e2<\/em> \u2013 supporters \u2013 e.g. Lalit\u00e2, Vish\u00e2kh\u00e2 etc.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  2. vipaksh\u00e2<\/em> \u2013 opposite party \u2013 e.g. Chandr\u00e2vali, Padm\u00e2, Shaiby\u00e2<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  3. suhrit-paksh\u00e2 <\/em>\u2013 well-wishers of the supporters \u2013 e.g. Shy\u00e2mal\u00e2<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  4. tatasth\u00e2-paksh\u00e2 <\/em>\u2013 well-wishers of the opponents – e.g. Bhadr\u00e2.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    These above-mentioned gopis<\/em> have friends who support them. They are in the same mood as these gopis<\/em> and they are happy simply to arrange a meeting with their group leader with Sri Krishna. They never desire any pleasure for themselves. We call them \u2018sakhis\u2019<\/em> of these gopis<\/em>. These girls broaden and enhance the pleasure of the prem,<\/em> leel\u00e2<\/em> and the love-sports. This is why although Sri Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2-Krishna\u2019s leel\u00e2<\/em> are infinite, the wise say that the leel\u00e2s<\/em> will never be so ras-<\/em>full without the help of the sakhis.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi has written in Sri Govinda-Leel\u00e2mritam 10.17 \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

    “vibhurapi sukha-rupah swa-prak\u00e2sho\u2019pi bh\u00e2vah<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    kshanam-api n\u00e2rad hi r\u00e2dh\u00e2-krishnayor-y\u00e2 rite sw\u00e2h,<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    pravahati rasa-pushtin chid-vibhuteeri-veshah<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    shrayati n\u00e2rad padam-\u00e2s\u00e2ng kah sakhin\u00e2m rasagnyah.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
