A poet, composer, musician, music director, painter on one hand, and also a philosopher and social reformer on the other \u2013 his talents and scholarliness knew no bounds. A very handsome personality, yet one who never cared for his own physical appearance or that of others\u2019. \u00a0Even the highest accolades did not move him. Even today, he holds the record for being the greatest educationist that human history has produced till date, and very aptly, he named his university as \u2018Universal\u2019. The Prime Minister of India feels honored to be appointed as the Chancellor of this university.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although he has written on wide number of topics, ranging from satire to patriotic, unfortunate as i am, had to read this composition as a mere child of eight or so &#8211; in fact this is his first composition that i read &#8211; \u00a0and it seeped into the sub-consciousness. \u00a0Later on i tumbled across an entire volume of dance-drama that he had dedicated to virahini Sri Radha.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today it makes me ponder that this great son of Mother India, whose life had been steeped in spiritualism, in his early youth, wanted to be in some way connected to Bhanu-nandini, (hence the pseudonym &#8216;Bhanu&#8217;) so much so, that he learnt Maithili \u2013 the language of Vidyapati, so that he could write like him\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Want to hear this soulful rendering in the original ? \u00a0Sung by one of the greatest exponents of Shastric music? Well, <a href=\"http:\/\/kunjeshwari.com\/kirtans\/marano_re_tunhu_mamo_shyama_saman.rm\">here<\/a> it is!<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dailyexcelsior.com\/magazine\/06nov12\/Paintings\" alt=\"\" width=\"472\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sri R\u0101dh\u0101 \u00a0has reached the zenith of viraha &#8211; now She can wait no more &#8211; She calls out piteously to Death &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>O Death, you are just like my Shy\u0101m<\/p>\n<p>You too are dark like the clouds,<\/p>\n<p>And your hair is dense like the clouds, just like His.<\/p>\n<p>To me, your blood red hands and lips appear beautiful <a name=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For,<\/p>\n<p>They remind me of His lotus-like rosy hands and sweet lips.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I prefer you to Him since you put an end to burning (=suffering)<\/p>\n<p>While His touch only increases the scorching fire of passion.<\/p>\n<p>Your lap is compassionate, for it soothes the one whom you embrace.<\/p>\n<p>O Mrityu (Death), please grace me with amritam (nectar or immortality).<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The sakhis (to each other) \u2013<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ohh ! Just look at R\u0101dh\u0101\u2019s eyes and body ! How feverish they are !<\/p>\n<p>And how Her eyes are shedding torrential tears ! (What will happen now?)<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sri R\u0101dh\u0101 continues to lament \u2013<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>O Death, you are my M\u0101dhav, you are verily my Beloved.<\/p>\n<p>Please put an end to all my suffering.<\/p>\n<p>O death, please come, do come.<\/p>\n<p>Please take me in your arms and close my eyelids forever.<\/p>\n<p>Place me on your lap, and let me cry to my heart\u2019s content.<\/p>\n<p>Thus let eternal sleep take over my entire body.<\/p>\n<p>O Death, promise me, that at least you will not forget me (like Him),<\/p>\n<p>And you will not forsake me.<\/p>\n<p>Tell me, O Death, that you will never break Radha\u2019s heart,<\/p>\n<p>And that you will always keep my bosom on yours \u2013 everyday every moment.<\/p>\n<p>I know you will keep your promise, for you are extraordinary loving.<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The poet \u2013<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bh\u0101nu says, Dear Radhe, fie!
