A question may then arise: How is it that Sri Lil\u00e2shuk suddenly became qualified to relish the \u2018R\u00e2s\u2013ras\u2019<\/em> that is so very confidential? Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2micharan replies that he had heard about Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2\u2019s anur\u00e2g<\/em> for Sri Krishna from Chint\u00e2mani the prostitute. Therefore, his heart was attracted towards \u2018R\u00e2s \u2013 ras\u2019 <\/span><\/span> and so he started performing Sri Krishna\u2013bhajan<\/em> in the R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2<\/em> path. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Although we may not be in the stage of rati<\/em> (passion), the R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2 s\u00e2dhak<\/em> has to perform bhajan<\/em> by meditating on his siddha-deha<\/em>. <\/span>They, who have reached the rati<\/em> stage, do not have to meditate consciously on their siddha-deha<\/em>. <\/span>It is spontaneous for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Therefore, he gained the rati <\/em>born of madhur<\/em>\u2013ras<\/em> and gradually he reached the stage of anur\u00e2g<\/em>. <\/span>At this stage, he was automatically inspired by his siddha-deha<\/em>. The properties of R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2 bhakti<\/em> are mentioned in Sri Bhakti-Ras\u00e2mrita-Sindhu as follows – <\/span><\/p>\n

r\u00e2g\u00e2tmik-aikika nishth\u00e2 ye vrajav\u00e2si- janadayal<\/span><\/em>,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

tesh\u00e2m bhavaptaye <\/span>lubdho bhaved-atradhikaravan.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

tat-tad-bh\u00e2avadi-madhurye shruti dhiryad \u2013 apekshate,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

n\u00e2tra sh\u00e2stram na <\/span>yuktincha tal- lobhotpatti \u2013 lakshanam.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “\u2018R\u00e2g<\/em>\u2019 means natural and supreme engrossment in one\u2019s object of desire. We call this r\u00e2g<\/em>\u2013filled devotion as \u2018r\u00e2g\u00e2tmik\u00e2\u2013bhakti<\/em>.\u2019 It is prominently expressed in the Vrajav\u00e2sis. When we follow in the footsteps of a devotee having r\u00e2g\u00e2tmik\u00e2<\/em>\u2013bhakti<\/em>, it is called R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2\u2013bhakti<\/em>. Now, <\/span><\/span>suppose there is a Vrajav\u00e2si who has single\u2013minded r\u00e2g\u00e2tmik\u00e2\u2013bhakti<\/em> and a certain bh\u00e2v<\/em> for Sri Krishna. If a person is extremely greedy to obtain that same bh\u00e2v<\/em>, then he is qualified for practicing R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2\u2013bhakti<\/em>. <\/strong>The mood and efforts of the Vrajav\u00e2sis are always pleasing to Krishna. When we learn this from their sweet pastimes and have even little bit realisation in our heart, oblivious of scriptural injunctions, we feel tempted towards the same bh\u00e2v\u2013m\u00e2dhurya<\/em><\/span><\/span>1<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> \u2013 this is the sign that we have started feeling greedy.\u201d <\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi has written \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“The inherent property of \u2018r\u00e2g<\/em>\u2019 is to have a deep thirst for our worshipped Deity. The Vrajavasis have this sort of outstanding bhakti<\/em>, hence we call their devotion as \u2018R\u00e2g\u00e2tmik\u00e2 bhakti\u2019.<\/em> <\/span>Practising devotion by following in their footsteps is called \u2018R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2<\/em>\u2013bhakti.<\/em>\u2019 <\/span>Its symptom is – complete absorption in our Beloved. the nature of a R\u00e2g\u00e2nug\u00e2<\/em> devotee is that he is not overruled by scriptural injunctions.\u201d \u2013 (C.C. We call a bhakti <\/em>full of r\u00e2g <\/em>as r\u00e2g\u00e2tmik\u00e2<\/em>.<\/span>2<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> Upon hearing about it, some rare fortunate person may be tempted towards it. Greedily he starts following in the Vrajav\u00e2sis\u2019 mood. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi has quoted the properties of \u2018r\u00e2g\u2019<\/em> and \u2018anur\u00e2g<\/em>\u2019 from Ujjwal\u2013Neelmani as follows \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stages of \u2018prem\u2019<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“When \u2018rati<\/em>\u2019 becomes permanent and firm, we call it \u2018prem<\/em>\u2019. Just as the seed of sugarcane sprouts into a sugarcane stem, from which we obtain juice. This juice is then concentrated and it forms molasses, which is converted into lump sugar. Later on, this lump sugar forms candied sugar and then refined sugar that is ultimately converted into white superfine sugar. Similarly this \u2018prem<\/em>\u2019 gradually increases to sneha, m\u00e2n<\/em>, pranay<\/em>, r\u00e2g, anur\u00e2g<\/em> and bh\u00e2v<\/em>.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
