When Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni\u2019s glances caress Him lovingly, Shy\u00e2msundar starts radiating so much splendour that it casts a spell on the Vraja\u2013gopis<\/em> and make them sloth\u2013like (slow moving).\u00a0 <\/span>He feels the desire to send loving signals because the glances of Mah\u00e2laxmi (Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 Who is the Supreme Laxmi) adore Him. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018laxmi\u2013kat\u00e2ksha-adritam<\/em><\/strong>\u2019<\/em> means that Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 should accept His desire. It may also be that, Sri Krishna\u2019s desire\u2013filled glances are being referred to as \u2018laxmi\u2013kat\u00e2ksha<\/em>\u2019 (auspicious gaze). We can also explain \u2018laxmi\u2013kat\u00e2ksha<\/em>–adritam<\/em>\u2019 in the following manner \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“shriyah k\u00e2ntah k\u00e2ntah parama \u2013 purushah\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “The Laxmis are Sri Krishna\u2019s beloveds\u201d \u2013 (Brahma\u2013Samhit\u00e2)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Again, Brahma\u2013Samhit\u00e2 says \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“laxmi \u2013 sahasra \u2013 shata \u2013 sambhrama \u2013 sevyamanam\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “Sri Krishna is reverently served by millions of Laxmis (Vraja\u2013Gopis).<\/em>\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The sidelong glance of Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2\u2019s restless eyes completely stupefies That Primeval Supreme Personality and renders Him entirely incapable of performing His pastimes!! Amazing !!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018<\/span><\/span><\/strong>K\u00e2m \u2013 avatar \u2013 ankuram\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Here \u2018K\u00e2m<\/em>\u2019 means \u2018love\u2019 and not lust.\u00a0 <\/span>In Tantra\u2013sh\u00e2stra<\/em> we find-<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“The love of the Gopis<\/em> is termed as \u2018K\u00e2m\u2019<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The love of the Vraja\u2013Gopis<\/em> for Sri Krishna, in the erotic (sweet) mood is the rarest of all love. It is called \u2018K\u00e2m\u2019.<\/em>\u00a0 <\/span>Hence, B.R.S. says\u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>“Even great devotees of Sri Bhagav\u00e2n<\/em> (He loves them as well) such as Uddhav, desire a love akin to that of the Gopis<\/em>, but can not obtain it.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The love between Krishna and the Gopis<\/em> is without any lust<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

“The love of the Gopis<\/em> is very deep and is called \u2018mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v<\/em>\u2019. It is extremely pure and clear. It can never be classified as lust. Love and lust are as unlike each other as gold and iron. When we wish to gratify our senses, it is called \u2018lust\u2019. When we want to please Krishna\u2019s senses, it is \u2018love.\u2019 Lust only wants to satisfy itself while love is very strong and has only one aim \u2013 to make Krishna happy.\u201d \u2013 (C.C. \u2013 \u00c2di.4.139-142)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Thus there is vast difference between lust and love. Lust is pitch darkness while love is as resplendent as the sun. Thus there is not a hint of lust in the Gopis<\/em>; they have relation with Krishna only to give Him joy\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You may ask \u2013 the word \u2018lust\u2019 sounds bitter while the Gopis<\/em> love is the topmost and the sweetest.\u00a0 <\/span>How can you call such topmost love as \u2018lust\u2019? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Srimad Rupa Gosw\u00e2mi allays such doubt \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“The Vraja\u2013beauties\u2019 special love reaches the height of inexpressible sweetness, and performs certain pastimes that resemble lust. Therefore the pandits term that love as \u2018lust\u2019.\u201d – (B.R.S.1.2.284)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Externally their behaviour seems like lust. However, internally they absolutely lack any desire for sense gratification \u2013 it is an incomprehensible mystery.\u00a0 <\/span>To show that this mystery is beyond our understanding, we term their love as lust.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“sahaje gopir prem nohe pr\u00e2krita k\u00e2m,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

k\u00e2m \u2013 krid\u00e2 samye tanr kohi k\u00e2m n\u00e2m.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Meaning \u2013 “The Gopis<\/em>\u2019 love is not at all like the material lust, only because it resembles the activities of lust, we call it \u2018lust\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>– (C.C \u2013 Madhya.8.174.)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Whom has the poet called \u2018K\u00e2m-avat\u00e2r\u2019<\/em>?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018K\u00e2m-avat\u00e2r<\/em>\u2019 literally means \u2018incarnation of the Love-god\u2019. However Sri Krishna is definitely not so. Then why is the poet referring to Him as \u2018k\u00e2m-avat\u00e2r<\/em>\u2019 ? \u2018K\u00e2m<\/em>\u2019 means the love of the Gopis<\/em>. \u2018Avat\u00e2r<\/em>\u2019 means manifestation. Nava Kishor Vrajendra-nandan (the son of king Nanda) is called \u2018K\u00e2mavat\u00e2r\u2013ankuram<\/em>\u2019 because He is showing the signs of \u2018sprouting (ankur<\/em>) love (k\u00e2m<\/em>)\u2019. Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mi says that, when Sri Krishna sees the erotic signs (K\u00e2m<\/em>) of the Gopis<\/em>, He too manifests such moods, so He is called \u2018K\u00e2m\u2013avat\u00e2r\u2013ankuram.\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
