He said to his friends \u2013 &#8220;O <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Sakhis<\/em>! May this wonderful indescribable Brilliance be ever manifested in my heart. (Here too, \u2018Brilliance\u2019 refers to the resplendent Sri Krishna full of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">l\u00e2vanya<\/em>). &#8220;Dear <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhi\u201d<\/em>, you may say, &#8220;what is the use of remembering Sri Krishna whose only job is to cause grief?\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The poet replies &#8211;<!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/kunjeshwari.com\/sweetblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/rk_one.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-522\" title=\"rk_one\" src=\"http:\/\/kunjeshwari.com\/sweetblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/rk_one.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a>\u00a0&#8220;You are right, but what do I do?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>My heart is not in my control.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>My heart is &#8220;<strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vishay<\/em>\u2013<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">visha<\/em>&#8211;<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u00e2misha<\/em>\u2013<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">grasana\u2013gridhnu<\/em><\/strong><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u201d<\/em> \u2013 which means &#8211; it is carnivorous and covets the poisonous sense-gratification! Why does the poet call his heart \u2018carnivorous\u2019? The ordinary explanation would be: \u2018Carnivorous\u2019 means \u2018meat-eater\u2019. Meat is a forbidden food. Similarly, material enjoyments are forbidden for a devotee. So meat and material pleasure are synonymous here. The poet\u2019s heart is engrossed in objects of sensual pleasure. He calls such objects as \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">\u00e2mish<\/em>\u2019 or \u2018meat\u2019 (which is hateful). Hence he describes his heart as \u2018carnivorous\u2019. However Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi does not buy the idea of Sri Lil\u00e2shuk being materialistic. He has explained this beautifully. Let me open my heart to you. First of all, I shall tell You about \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vishay<\/em>\u2019 (material objects). \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Vishay<\/em>\u2019 is that which appears so very sweet and thus keeps our honeybee like mind in bondage. Who else is such a \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vishay\u2019 <\/em>other than Sri Krishna? This <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vishay<\/em> (Sri Krishna) torments us in the same way as <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vish<\/em> (poison) tortures the body.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hence, it is also venomous. Dear <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em>, you may say, when it burns like poison, why are you obsessed with it?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Well, my reply is that, it is as tempting as forbidden food<a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn1;\" name=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> (since anything that is forbidden is more tempting). Hence, once addicted, we cannot give it up easily. This source of \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vishay-vish\u2019<\/em> (Shy\u00e2msundar) is so attractive that if our heart is ever attracted by Him, He immediately devours it. In spite of being sweet, it causes untold anguish. It is as delicious as nectar, at the same time, it is as tormenting as poison. Analytically speaking, even the agony is delicious.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This torment arises from love.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Love is a property of Hl\u00e2dini\u2013<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">shakti<\/em> or the Blissful potency of Krishna. Therefore, when love is the cause of this torment, then undoubtedly, it will be blissful! Actually, this suffering is the ripened form of intense bliss. Let us consider an example \u2013 if we hold a piece of ice for a long time, we feel a burning sensation as if we have touched fire. But is there any fire?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, we have touched ice that is opposite of fire. Hence, we find that too much cold is causing the sensation of burning due to fire. In the same way, extremely intense blissful love is the source of agony. In the drama Vidagdha\u2013M\u00e2dhav, Sri Pournam\u00e2si <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Devi<\/em> is describing the nature of love to Sri N\u00e2ndimukhi \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;O beautiful one! In whosever heart, the love for Sri Nanda-Nandan (Krishna) awakens, she realises clearly the power of crooked yet sweet love. This love inflicts a torment in front of which bitter and freshly prepared concentrated venom appears harmless.
