They are meditating on Him now so that a vision of Vibhu\u2019s sweet beauty and <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">l\u00e2vanya<\/em> appear in their mind during the period of painful separation. \u2019<strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Abhangur<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 means \u2018straight\u2019 and \u2018unbroken\u2019. It refers to their straight unbroken (unobstructed) line of vision.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>They are practising to behold Sri Krishna\u2019s beauty and <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">l\u00e2vanya <\/em>without blinking or the shedding tears of joy (since blinking and tears are great disturbances). They want to behold Krishna unobstructed. The eyelids cause great impediment in Sri Krishna-<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">darshan<\/em>. Therefore, they criticise the creator in the following manner-<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;He (Lord Brahma) did not give us lacs of crores of eyes. He gave us only one pair of eyes and that too with eyelids. This proves that he is not intelligent. His heart is dry and devoid of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em>. He does not know the art of creation\u201d.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>&#8211; (C.C. \u2013 Madhya.21.112)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Tears of joy and agitation of the heart also obstruct <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">darshan.<\/em> Hence, they are irritated with these as well \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>&#8220;I managed to behold <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Vamshivadan<\/em><a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn1;\" name=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> (Krishna) once in a blue moon and immediately Joy and Passion (two enemies) overwhelmed my mind and I could not gaze at Him to my heart\u2019s content. Now if I get to see Him even once, I shall felicitate that hour, minute and second with flower garlands, sandalwood paste and gem-studded ornaments.\u201d &#8211; (C.C. \u2013 Madhya.2.33-34)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Again, \u2018<strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ananga \u2013 rekh\u00e2 \u2013 ras ranjit\u00e2bhih\u2019<\/em><\/strong><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> <\/em>means <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Vrajadevis<\/em> adorn Him or meditate upon him with their unobstructed glances. Their <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Mah\u00e2bh\u00e2v<\/em>\u2013filled glances are exuding the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em> of crores of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Kandarpas<\/em><a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn2;\" name=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>! These words also mean that just as a row of arrows pierce the bull\u2019s eye, the arrows of their glances, tipped with erotic <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em> are piercing Sri Krishna.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">You<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> may be curious about what the eyes of the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopis<\/em> are like. In reply, the poet has said that they are naturally tinged with pink in the corners and are lined with kohl. \u2018<strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Abhangurabhi<\/em>\u2019<\/strong> also means <strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\">\u2018invincible\u2019<\/strong>, since nobody can defeat the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopis<\/em> in <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">relishing <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness. The reason for this is their ever-new thirsty \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">anur\u00e2g\u2019<\/em>. Sri Ujjwal-Neelmani has described Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni\u2019s <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">anur\u00e2g<\/em> &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;Once, upon hearing Sri Krishna\u2019s name, Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 asked Sri Lalit\u00e2, \u2018Dear friend! Who is this Krishna?\u2019 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Lalit\u00e2 said, \u2018Whosoever He may be, why do You want to know?\u2019 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srimati said, \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Sakhi<\/em>, it is necessary to keep me informed about Him. Just by hearing the two syllables of His name, I have completely lost all my self-control, which is invaluable. Can you imagine what will happen if I behold Him! So, to protect my family honour it is necessary to know about Him, so that I may strictly avoid Him.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Lalit\u00e2 then replied, \u2018Oh!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>How You are blinded by \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">anur\u00e2g\u2019<\/em>! Don\u2019t You really know Him?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srimati said, \u2018I swear I don\u2019t know Him.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Lalit\u00e2 told, \u2018O You bewitched girl! You are so extremely thirsty You have been robbed of Your consciousness.\u2019 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srimati then said, \u2018Then please remind me.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Lalit\u00e2 replied, \u2018Just now I myself had placed Your hand in His.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srimati exclaimed, \u2018Ah! Now I remember. For the first time, at the break of dawn, He did appear momentarily like a flash of lightning and then vanished!\u2019.\u201d &#8211; (\u00c2nanda-Chandrik\u00e2 explanation)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Such extreme <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">anur\u00e2g\u2013<\/em>filled thirst is the reason why the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopis<\/em> can never be defeated in relishing Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Again, since they are filled with erotic\u2013<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em>, their <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vaidagdhi <\/em>is forever increasing. Hence, Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is getting more and more eager.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srila Bhatta Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d has written that Srip\u00e2d Lil\u00e2shuk has taken shelter of Sri Krishna only to behold Him in a particular manner<a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn3;\" name=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. The merciful Lord appears to the devotee in various forms. Therefore, He is \u2018Vibhu\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srimad-Bh\u00e2gavatam (3.9.11) also states &#8211; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;Devotees meditate on various eternal forms of Sri <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Bhagav\u00e2n.<\/em> He then shows mercy on them and manifests Himself in those very same forms\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srila Krishnad\u00e2s Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d has quoted this verse in Sri Chaitanya-Charit\u00e2mrita and has said \u2013 &#8220;I am stating the gist of this verse in short: Krishna incarnates in various forms according to the devotees\u2019 wish\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">\u2018We take shelter of That Vibhu\u2019<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">. The poet has used \u2018we\u2019 to denote all self-surrendered likeminded devotees. Here we must note that <strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\">to surrender unto the Lord in the association of devotees is a great part of \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">s\u00e2dhan\u00e2\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">Srip\u00e2d has explained \u2018<strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">abhy\u00e2sam\u00e2nam\u2019<\/em><\/strong> in the following manner \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">The <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Vrajadevis<\/em> behold Sri Krishna constantly<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">. Even then, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">they are not satisfied. Their thirst to relish Sri Krishna\u2019s sweetness continuously increases. Hence there is no sweetness in Brahm\u00e2\u2019s creative ability\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\">This means that even if they see Him with many eyes, hear about Him with many ears and talk to him with many mouths, they will not be satisfied. Brahm\u00e2 has given them only two eyes, two ears and one mouth!
