Madhur-bhakti-ras<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

“A devotee in madhur ras<\/em> five characteristics in all \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. she is steadfast in her attachment to Sri Krishna (like a sh\u00e2nta<\/em>-devotee)<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. extreme sev\u00e2<\/em> (of the d\u00e2s<\/em>-devotee)<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. the unhesitating (frank) behavior of the sakh\u00e2<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  4. caring and protecting attitude of the v\u00e2tsalya<\/em> devotee<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. over and above she serves Sri Krishna by offering her body.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    Just as the five elements (sky, air, fire, water and earth) have the qualities of the previous elements, and ultimately the earth has all the five characteristics, similarly the madhur<\/em>-devotee has a beautiful conglomeration of all the qualities of the devotees in other ras.<\/em> Therefore this ras <\/em>has much more relish and it tastes extraordinarily wonderful!\u201d \u2013 (C.C.Madhya.19.189-192)<\/span><\/p>\n

    The ingredients of madhur ras <\/em>\u2013 <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/em><\/p>\n

    Vibh<\/span>\u00e2vs \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u00b7<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>the object of ras <\/em>\u2013 the unparalleled Sri Krishna Who is the Chief of the vidagdhas<\/em>. Example \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/span><\/p>\n

    “Dear sakhi<\/em>, Sri Hari is gladdening the hearts of all the Gopis<\/em> by entertaining them with His body that is softer and darker than the blue lotus; thus He is pleasuring them with a Feast of Love. Every part of His body is freely embraced by the Vraja-beauties \u2013 thus He is looking all the more charming. In this manner He is sporting in this spring season like Eros personified.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    “The maidens of Vraja appear exquisitely sweet and new each moment; every tendency of their heart is a wave of love and they adore Him as their Beloved \u2013 I pay obeisance to such remarkable Vraja-kishoris.<\/em>\u201d \u2013 (B.R.S. 3.5.6)<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    Although the queens of Dw\u00e2rak\u00e2 and women like Kubj\u00e2 (in Mathur\u00e2) too have k\u00e2nt\u00e2-bh\u00e2v<\/em> (the mood of a sweetheart), the Vraja-beauties are in parakiy\u00e2-<\/em>mood, and they are the greatest of all sweethearts. <\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    “Amongst them, Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni, Who is the crest-jewel of all Vraja-b\u00e2l\u00e2s<\/em>, is the topmost.\u201d<\/span>1<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> \u2013 (B.R.S.)<\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/span><\/p>\n

    “Sri Krishna is the embodiment of love and so a devotee entirely subjugates Him with his love. Also the gopik\u00e2s<\/em> are very mature where pure prem-ras<\/em> is concerned. After all there is no ras\u00e2bh\u00e2s-dosh<\/em><\/span><\/span>2<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>,<\/em> in the love of the Gopik\u00e2s.<\/em> Hence they are able to satisfy Sri Krishna supremely. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/p>\n

    One group of Gopis<\/em> is \u2018v\u00e2m\u00e2<\/em>\u2019 (crooked) while the other group is \u2018dakshin\u00e2\u2019<\/em> (generous, straight etc.). They make Sri Krishna relish ras<\/em> in many ways. <\/span>Amongst all these Gopis<\/em>, Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2 Th\u00e2kur\u00e2ni is the topmost, for She is the treasure-mine of crystal pure dazzling love. She is \u2018madhyam\u00e2<\/em>\u2019 in age and balanced in nature. Her love is immensely intense and so She is constantly \u2018v\u00e2m\u00e2<\/em>\u2019. Due to this, She is always going into m\u00e2n<\/em>, and this creates huge waves in Sri Krishna\u2019s ocean-like bliss.\u201d \u2013 (C.C.Madhya.17.156-157, 159-162)<\/span><\/p>\n

    “Her eyes steal the beauty of an inebriated chakori<\/em><\/span><\/span>3<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, Her face stifles the glory of the full moon, Her immensely exquisite beauty makes super-pure gold feel very much ashamed of its brilliance \u2013 look, there is Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 \u2013 the One Who contains all sweetness of the Nectar.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

    2<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> This is considered as the most terrible flaw in ras<\/em>. It means when something comes up in a ras<\/em>-presentation (or ras<\/em>-relish), that closely resembles ras<\/em>, but it is not so. It is an imitation of the real thing and is highly abhorrent.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
