By the mercy of Sriman-Mah\u00e2prabhu, Srila Kavir\u00e2j Gosw\u00e2mi has served a magnificent nectar<\/span><a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn3;\" name=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> by bringing Srimati R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni into Karn\u00e2mritam. Therefore it has now become unparalleled. During the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">R\u00e2s-leel\u00e2<\/em>, when the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopab\u00e2l\u00e2s <\/em>met Sri Krishna for the first time, they felt proud of their good fortune while Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 felt <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">m\u00e2n.<\/em> The <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopis<\/em> felt that Sri Krishna was very easily available. When Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2 saw that He was equally disposed towards every <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopi,<\/em> She was full of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">m\u00e2n<\/em> and sorrow.<!--more--><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Due to this, Sri Krishna could not relish the sweet <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em> and so He disappeared with Her. When She saw that Sri Krishna loves Her the most, She became proud of Her good fortune.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">But this opposed the relish of pure love. So Sri Krishna, to enhance Her love, as well as to hear Her lamentations filled with anxiety, forsook Her also. When Sri Krishna-Chandra (<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">chnadra = <\/em>moon) disappeared, the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Gopis<\/em>\u2019 moonlit night turned into the pitch darkness of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>. Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2r\u00e2ni too set forth with Her <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhis<\/em> to search for Her Rasik-Shekhar (Chief all <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">rasikas<\/em>). Sri Lil\u00e2shuk is present with them in the form of a <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sakhi<\/em>. He is voicing Sri R\u00e2dh\u00e2\u2019s lamentation as She is going from one wood to the other.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">These thirty-three verses are full of such <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>-lamentation. They express great eagerness and anxiety.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">In Rhetoric we find that the erotic <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em> is of two types \u2013 <strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sambhog<\/em><\/strong><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> <\/em>(union) and <strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vipralambha<\/em><\/strong> (separation).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">It is also written \u2013&#8221;<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Sambhog<\/em> is not nourished until there is <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">vipralambha<\/em> or <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>, just as a coloured cloth looks brighter when it is dyed again.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: normal;\">Srila Vishwan\u00e2th Chakravartip\u00e2d has explained this verse in his \u00c2nanda\u2013Chandrik\u00e2 purport in the following manner \u2013 \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Sambhog\u2019<\/em> and \u2018<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Vipralambha<\/em>\u2019 are two types of erotic <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras.<\/em> But we are saying that <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> nourishes <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sambhog<\/em>. Then should we not call <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> a part of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sambhog<\/em>? Why call it a separate <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em>? Well, <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> not only nourishes <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sambhog<\/em>, but also results in the lovers expressing very deep loving sentiments in <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">smaran<a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn4;\" name=\"_ftnref4\" href=\"#_ftn4\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, sphuran<\/em><\/span><\/span><a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn5;\" name=\"_ftnref5\" href=\"#_ftn5\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> and while actually seeing each other. It is most fantastic. Hence, it has gained a special position in the science of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">ras<\/em>. The ancient sages too say- <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: normal;\">&#8220;Of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">milan<\/em><\/span><\/span><a style=\"mso-footnote-id: ftn6;\" name=\"_ftnref6\" href=\"#_ftn6\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> and <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>, the latter is superior, since in <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">milan<\/em> the beloved gains Krishna alone, while in <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>, everything in the universe becomes full of Krishna.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: normal;\">Here, you may ask &#8211; when <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sphurti<\/em> etc. stops, the pangs of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha <\/em>become intolerable. Hence how can we call it superior to the joy of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">milan<\/em>?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The answer is that, the pain of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> is a property of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Hl\u00e2dini <\/em>and <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Samvit <\/em>potencies of the Supreme Being. Hence, although it appears as pain, it is supremely blissful. Srimat San\u00e2tan Gosw\u00e2mip\u00e2d too has found the bliss of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> to be superior to the joy of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">milan<\/em>. He has said \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 6;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&#8220;When we undergo <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em>, in the beginning the memory of the dear one gives rise to a raging forest fire in the heart which results in extreme burning sensations which further gives rise to never-ending sorrow and misery. Even so, this distress culminates in supreme joy and causes a <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">sphuran<\/em> of inexpressible bliss. Hence <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha <\/em>is more praise worthy than the joy of <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">milan<\/em>. This sorrow results from <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">prem<\/em> (pure love). Hence in <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">viraha<\/em> even the most condensed form of sorrow given rise to waves of joy.
