Bishnupriya in Gambheera

Dear sweet devotees,

Today i came across a fantastic devotee, or rather he chanced upon me – he introduced me to  an  extraordinary book – “Bishnupriya in Gambheera”. It is a recording by Haridasji Goswami. It reveals such high level bhaav, i cannot describe. It contains some stanzas in Bangla – some evidences etc. and then translations of the Bangla portions.

Some part from this book that struck me –

” Bishnupriya ji was engrossed in her bhajan in her Deities’ room in Gambheera. Along with her two sakhis, Amita and Kanchan too were chanting silently. The time was night 3 O’ clock. Each of them faced a different direction. The chanted in  manner that there was no difference between now between Naam and Naami. The were seeing Shyamsundar right in front of them, and the Mahamantra was humming in their heart, brain, consciousness and sub-consciousness. Their whole system was echoing with the beauty, splendor and sweetness of Krishna-naam. They did not know when they had attained samadhi.

Although Priyaji was chanting on the mala, there came  a time, when the mala slipped from her hand, and fell on Prabhu’s sandals. But she was not aware – her Naam continued. She was immersed in the ocean of bhaav. From her eyes tears of prem overflowed  – torrents of pure Ganga and Jamuna that were rushing to merge in the Sea at Neelachal. Priyaji was the embodiment of the meeting point of Nadia and Neelachal. “

Such a splendid example of nirjan bhajan – the ‘real’  thing.  Radhe Radhe !!!

  1. Radhe Radhe! Her love (due to relationship) for Gora was the cause of her SO MUCH vairāgya & devotion! She used to eat exactly as many number (NOT grams!) of grains as many rounds of Harinama she’d have done in a day! But I’ve never heard of her in Neelāchal! Is this story true?
  2. NO re !! She never went to Neelachal. She did such ecstatic high level bhajan in Nabadweep itself, that her house got CONVERTED into Gambheera !!!!!!!! And her bhav-anubhutis of the Jamuna (meaning Jugal-sarkar)were carried by elder sister Ganga to Bangopasagar – in this way her bhaav-anubhutis reached Neelachal, and then the sea-breeze carried its fragrance bursting into the innermost ramparts of Gambheera !!!!!!!!!!! The perfumed breeze would crash through the thick walls (signifying the highlevel of confidentiality of Gambheera-leela), enter Gambheera, and arouse the Gambheer-est- -passion in That Resident of Gambheera. These are all bhaav-lafz for samajhne-waalon ke liye. And ishaaraa kafi hota hai………….in cases as these i dont like to speak more……….the smoke of silence is better since the fire in me is raging.
  3. GREAT!!!! You’re speaking poetic lines it seems! 😀 Gora left her by sannyasa, but COULDN’T leave her by heart! Would you say something she was more or less than (in any way) the residents of Gambheera? Better keep silent! 😆
  4. Radhe Radhe! Vipralambha is the process of “battery-charging” for sambhog-leela! (not relating specifically to this, but in general!). So,…you got more fascinated by the tears of Bishnupriya? Goursundar could have chosen to come to sannyas along with His wife like Pānḍu mahārāj took with his queens! But despite knowing everything, He didn’t! He went on to devotion-ally “enjoy” with Gadadhara, Svarup Damodar & other associates… BUT this is just one side of the picture! O dear! You know, Goursundar…was in debt—He had a debt which can’t be paid by money, any property, kingdom or even whole creation! It was—THE DEBT OF LOVE!!! In Krishna leela, He left Radharani & sakhis crying in pain, the tears of which….can sink the whole world, creation including Krishna (who’ll be the first to drown!)! The prem-anubhutīs of sakhis had no support like Ganga, or the sea…they had to go through…oh soooooo many boundaries of vast empires (Vatsa, Matsya & Avanti to name a few)! Crossing the huge distance, and without doubt, the FORTIFIED walls of impregnable Dwarakā, and what they did when they reached there— Krishna COULDN’T remain “Gambheer”! In a place that was in no way suitable to express His internal emotions, He got FAINTED!!!!! In front of His wives, to the peak of His embarrassment, He was expressing His tribhaṅgī pose in completely absorbed state! He was CRYING calling out the names “Rādhā…”, He was rolling on the floor with Balaram in front of everyone in pain of separation…even Brahma had to come & create a temporary Vrindavan there to relieve Him & hence the universe! Just measure the volume of tears devotees shed & the fire that explodes in their hearts when they read this leela & u’ll know…
  5. Radhe Radhe! The interesting part is to pay this debt, He had to hire the bhāv-kānti of Radharani—in whose debt He was! 😆 He payed the debt in many ways throughout His leela…but mostly by hearing, chanting, remembering, crying all about the Vraja-leela in Gambheera! And the “rent” of bhāv-kānti was paid showing how nicely He was playing Her part to Gadadhara! 😆
  6. Wat do u mean by – “Just measure the volume of tears devotees shed & the fire that explodes in their hearts when they read this leela & u’ll know”? ya, u did help in editing BB, but i think, i’m the one who translated it ? So, sure i read all those sniffles and tantrums he threw !
  7. First he leaves Braj and gopis for Mathura/Dwarka. The he leaves Navadwip wife and family for Puri. We have a word for that over here: Commitment-phobe!
  8. Radhe Radhe! Oh I mean comparing effect the two vipralambha leelas have on the devotees’ hearts—the one you mention here of Bishnupriya in Navadwipa & other of Gopis crying in Vrindavana… I hope you know that Gora’s going to Gambheera is like going to Vrindavana & enjoying with sakhis (who’ve come as His pārshads) in so many ways…
  9. “I hope you know that Gora’s going to Gambheera is like going to Vrindavana & enjoying with sakhis (who’ve come as His pārshads) in so many ways…” Tell that to Bishnupriya!
  10. Rasik Psychologist @ Ur Service! sais – “Tell that to Bishnupriya!” Aah !! Once again the “Bharatiya Nari sob-story” 🙄 She should really learn from her western counterpart, who by now would hv married so many times 😳 Rasik Psychologist @ Ur Service! also said – “We have a word for that over here: Commitment-phobe!” The first time he married, he left her to go gallivanting all over East Bengal (cooler pastures, more idyllic river-beds… 😉 – he left her there to take care of his mom. She did the right thing – left him for good !! The next time he married, he went away to picnic in Gaya, returned insane, the symptoms of which increased and culminated in Gambheera. As usual, Bishnupriya was left to care for mom. The typical Indian son !!! 🙄
