“We have not been able to eat or sleep after seeing the happening at Suryakund”, weeps Shobha Mataji, a resident of Radha Colony, Radhakund. After all, who could – after seeing dismembered limbs, smashed skulls, blood flowing like water, and dislocated eyes? Many matajis are suffering from nightmare ever since this gory incident. But then, who cares? With the death toll rising, and the injured going from bad to worse – the devotees are aghast at the lack of sympathy shown by the Radhakund Panchayat. So far no political or religious body has shown any keen interest in the aftermath of the disaster. Radharaman baba of Radha Colony is reported to be still without treatment, in spite of a hip-bone being powdered. Devotees are dismayed at the lack of support shown by the management.
It is reported that a complaint has been filed against the Management Committee of the Suryakund Festival, who is alleged to have done nothing to save the devotees. To refute this allegation an All-devotee meeting has been called by Murari Baba who is the head of the Utsav Committee. We still have no report about the outcome of this meeting, though.
It has been noted that the onus to help clear the debris lay largely on the villagers of Suryakund (hats off to them) and to the near and dear ones of the sufferers. It is well-known that in India, in the case of disasters, funds do pour in from all over the world, but hardly any trickle down to the agonized party. This is a truth that each and every Indian is aware of. So unless and until we directly serve the victim, our help is not of any use, and will only go into the coffers of a petty few. Jay Radhe !
