Krishna, subhadra and balarama in a temple in Kurukshetra
When the queens of Dwaraka had gone on a picnic cum pilgrimage to Kurukshetra, the Gopis too ahd come there to meet their Beloved Kanhaiya. The queens saw the ecstasy on the face of their Pran-vallabh. They wondered how much Gopi-prem must be that is able to enrapture Mohan? Also what all prem-leelas must have occurred in Vrindaban that even today holds Gopinath mesmerized? They begged Rohini mata to reveal all to them. Rohini mata instructed Subhadra to keep guard at the door and not allow Balaram and Krishna to enter. They would be all the more overcome with separation, and they would not be able to bear the pain.
But how is it possible for a loving heart like Subhadra to keep herself from eavesdropping on such sweet Krishna-katha? She glued her ear to the door and drank and drank nectar through her ear. Her premi-heart melted – oh – not only her heart, but she herself melted. Just then who should pass by, but Krishna and Balaram !! When they saw Subhadra’s condition thus, they too glue dtheir ears and started hearing the katha. Bal-dauji too melted, and Krishna melted so much that he became Jagannath !! (the Beloved of the world) !! See how his eyes became round in ecstasy ? He is filled with wonderment at his own excellences and sweet pastimes. This is why Jagannath is the most merciful Deity ever. All this happened in Kurukshetra.
