Pandharpur
Pandharpur in Maharashtra - on the banks of River Chandrabhaga , which is an off-shoot of Godavari, is the Holy Place around which the Vaarkari Sampraday led by Sant Tukaram spearheaded the bhakti-movement. Lord Krishna has appeared here as Vittthal or the 'One Who rests on bricks'. The bricks were offered by a devotee n a desperate bid to keep the Lord waiting on them while he served his dying parents. This is the only place where i have heard the Lord being called lovingly as 'Vitthaai' or 'Mother Krishna ' . The Vaarkaris or Maharashtrian Vaishnavs are extremely loving, compassionate and humane. Humanity and universalism is their hallmark.
